As it stands, the Premier League title race is one of the most exciting in the competition’s history. Liverpool currently top the table having lost just once all season long and they have four games remaining. However, Manchester City have five games left and can earn one more point than Liverpool in those games.
The dominance of Liverpool and City this season has been exceptional. While City ran away with the league title last year and already had the league wrapped up at around this point in the season, Liverpool’s dogged determination and flat refusal to lie down has seen them bite back at City time and time again.

After coming through a tricky three games stretch where they played Tottenham at home, Southampton away, a Champions League quarterfinal against Porto and then Chelsea at home, with four wins from four, Liverpool have thrown down a big gauntlet to City who now have their own series of tough matches to navigate.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the game coming up in the Premier League over the next fortnight which could have a massive say on where the league title eventually ends up and we will also give our predictions on how we see each game going.

Remaining Fixtures
Liverpool
- V Cardiff City (A) – Sunday 21st April – Win
- V Huddersfield (H) – Friday 26th April – Win
- V Newcastle (A) – Sunday 5th May – Win
- V Wolves (H) – Sunday 12th May – Win

After a tough run of games, Liverpool begin their final four games with two very winnable matches. Cardiff City away will be tough with Neil Warnock having no love for Liverpool and his Cardiff side are in desperate need for points in the relegation battle. However, the Reds have more than enough quality to produce a performance to pick up the win in South Wales.
What follows should be a relatively rudimentary home game with already relegated Huddersfield. The Terriers have not been at their best this season and are in the middle of a miserable run of losing games and it is hard to see them doing anything at Anfield in a game that Liverpool will want to win and win handsomely, especially if it looks like goal difference could be key over the final two weeks of the season.
The weekend after the Reds face arguably their toughest test remaining in the season with a trip north to take on Newcastle United and their former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. Benitez is hugely popular at Anfield and while he won’t do Liverpool any favours, Newcastle’s relative safety and the fact that Newcastle are on a good run of form at home, means that this could well be a tough game for the Reds.
Finally, the last game of the season will be at Anfield against a Wolves side that have won there in the FA Cup in recent seasons and who beat the Reds in the FA Cup earlier this season. Wolves have played superbly against top six sides over the course of the season so they won’t make it easy for the Reds, but even so, with Anfield likely to be packed to the rafters, and with Wolves season pretty much over, I can’t see the Reds slipping up again here.
Overall, while it will be tougher than many experts are predicting, I do feel Liverpool will finish the season with maximum 12 points, which would leave them on an incredible 97 points. The question is, will it be enough?
Manchester City
- V Tottenham (H) – Sat 20th April – Win
- V Man Utd (A) – Wed 24th April – Draw
- V Burnley (A) – Sun 28th April – Win
- V Leicester City (H) – Sat 4th April – Win
- V Brighton (A) – Sun 12th April – Win
City have one game extra to play and a tougher schedule, plus they will play at least one more game than Liverpool domestically as City are also in the FA Cup Final, while both teams could also have three more Champions League games to play after this week’s quarterfinal second leg games (and they could even meet in the final in Madrid).
City face Spurs twice at home in the space of a few days with the league encounter coming on the back of the two teams meeting in the Champions League. This should be a tough game for City with Spurs looking back to their best, even if they will be without the injured Harry Kane for both those games.

The key game for City is the Manchester derby at Old Trafford and although City have a good record against their old rivals, especially at Old Trafford in recent years, the fact this is a derby game makes this a very tough game, especially on the back of a number of tough games in the past few weeks.
It doesn’t get much easier after that with a tough trip to Burnley who are always tough to play against at Turf Moor and who are battling relegation. Leicester City, who beat City in the league in December are next up at the Etihad in the penultimate game of the season with Brendan Rogers their new manager being a former Reds boss and he could potentially help his former club win the league if the Foxes can pick up a win or draw here.
Finally, City face a tough final day’s fixture as they travel to Brighton, the team they beat in the FA Cup Semifinals a couple of weeks back. Brighton gave a good account of themselves against City in those games and they could also be battling against the drop themselves in what should be an intriguing final day.
I can see City picking up four wins and a draw from these games but that would leave them with 96 points which would mean Liverpool win the league by a single point, if those predictions are correct.
