I’m always glad to hear that NetEnt have released a new game. The company has a proven track record of producing some of the most playable and enjoyable slots of modern times including the likes of Starburst and the popular Mythic Maiden amongst its releases. Their newest slot, playable now at Bet365 Games, is the rather enigmatically entitled Wild Play SuperBet slot and it is a rather odd design, with its overall look being what I would term ‘futuristic-retro’.

By that I mean that the slot backdrop, sound effects and general presentation all have a very futuristic feel, not unlike the previously mentioned Starburst slot, but instead of futuristic symbols on the reels, what you have are a number of more retro themed symbols including lemons, melons, cherries, bells and 7s. Alongside these are a number of gem symbols that are coloured green and blue. The fruit symbols and the bell are lower value symbols, with the two gem stones mid value and the 7s the highest value standard symbols in the game, five of which on a payline offers a payout of 300 coins.

The key element of this slot however is the SuperBet feature, which you decide on before you spin. You can play the standard game for your standard bet of 50 coins, or you can use the SuperBet feature which increases the value of your Wild Multipliers from 1x up to 5x in the base game (up to 10x in free spins) for an increase in the size of your standard bet. Playing at the highest SuperBet level (four) would cost you a minimum of 300 coins per spin (£3 if you play at the lowest coin value).  Once you have decided what level of SuperBet you want to play at, you can then start the reels spinning and get the game underway.

Wild Play SuperBet Slot Key Features

We’ve already covered the SuperBet feature and what it does, but what we have not looked at is how the different Wild symbols interact with each other. Wilds are on the middle three reels and each will have the same multiplier you have selected with your SuperBet from 1x up to 5x in the base game. However, if you land Wilds on successive reels that form part of the same payline, then you add together the value of both the Wilds to create a new multiplier.

So for example, if you landed three Wilds on a payline in the base game of 5x each, then you would have 5x + 5x +5x which is a 15x multiplier on that win. If you land two Wilds on the reels as part of a payline win then that would be a 10x multiplier win.

However, one thing to point out here is that the majority of wins in the base game are very small in value and the majority you land will not be as much as your initial bet. This is only exacerbated when you play with the higher level SuperBet options activated and in truth, you need plenty of these multiple Wild symbol multiplier wins in order for you to break even on what is a medium variance slot, but which quickly becomes more higher variance with the bigger the SuperBet feature you activate.

The other big feature of the slot is the Free Spins bonus round and this is triggered when you land three of the Scatter Bonus symbols anywhere across the reels. This gives you an immediate payout of 80 coins and triggers 10 Free Spins.  During the Free Spins bonus round, all multipliers on the Wild symbols are doubled in value, so a 5x multiplier becomes a 10x multiplier. Of course, you can still combine Wilds in a successful payline win to achieve a potential 30x multiplier. You can also retrigger the Free Spins bonus from within the game to earn an additional set of free spins.

Wild Play SuperBet is a very simple slot to enjoy in that it is easy to win small amounts on it regularly and the gameplay itself is easy to follow. However, the more you increase the value of your SuperBet, the more volatile the slot plays, so it is imperative that players decide what level they want to play the game at before they start spinning and then accept that the higher the value of your Wild Multipliers, the more volatile the slot will be.

How to win at the Wild Play SuperBet slot

The question you need to ask yourself when playing the Wild Play SuperBet slot is very much, what are you expecting from the game? Do you want smaller wins, with a few medium sized wins to keep your bankroll relatively in shape, if so then at best you should play this without any SuperBet features enabled. At best, you should play it with the 2x multiplier enabled as at least at this amount, you are doubling your stake to double the size of your multiplier.

Beyond that the game becomes more complicated as the next stake size for the 3x multiplier is actually 4x your standard stake. Your 4x multiplier is 5x the standard stake and 5x multiplier is 6x the standard stake. They are not great value odds for punters seeking a medium variance game and as such, only higher variance players who enjoy slots that offer you small rewards but a chance of a big win, should really be playing at the higher level.

However, my contention is that the size of the majority of wins in the game are so small, the biggest jackpot is 300 coins, that even with the Wild multipliers, you seldom feel like you are getting value for money on your spins. Big wins with the Wild Multipliers are rare and even when you hit several Wild Multipliers on a win, the win is usually a lower value win, of say 10 coins, which amounts to a 100 coin win on a spin where you have already likely bet 100 coins.

The Free Spins game is where the bigger wins can be found but triggering this bonus can be tricky and again, this is a volatile bonus with some big amounts paid out, but also some very small rewards for a bonus game that is very tough to trigger.
