I do enjoy it when a slots company pushes the envelope a little and tries to create a game that is somewhat different to the usual slots offering and to be fair to Playtech, that is precisely what they have done here with their Olympic Games themed Wild Games slot.
Although perhaps not quite encompassing the hundreds of events held at the real games, the Wild Games slot focuses instead on three and also on three rather more unusual competitors as they are all animals. We have a Cheetah who is likely to be a strong favourite in the 100m Dash, there’s a Bulldog who is at home in the water as he is on land and finally a hippo who is a bit of a whizz on the gymnastic balance beam.
These form the key backdrop to the Wild Games slot but also are the inspiration behind three of its key features, which we will explore in more detail below after we have looked at the basics of the game.
They are that it is a 5×3 reel slot that has a total of 25 fixed pay lines in play on each spin and there is a total jackpot in the game of 3,000 coins. You can bet from as little as Ā£0.25 per spin or ramp up the value of each spin to a massive Ā£500 per spin if you are a higher roller.
There’s a fantastic animated introduction to the slot which is well worth a watch before you get down to the main aspects of what you see on screen.
The lower value symbols on the reels are the playing card low symbols which have been given a unique livery for the slot and which offer smaller value wins from 5 coins up to 100 coins. There are two mid-value symbols the Basketball and the Soccer Ball and these will offer you wins from 25 coins to 500 coins.
The higher value symbols are the three competing animals who will each award wins of between 5 coins (for 2 on a payline) up to 1,000 coins for five on a line. However these symbols also act as Stacked Wilds and we will explore that more in detail in the section below.
There are other symbols on the reels including the Wild Games Wild and the Medal Bonus symbols, each of which triggers other bonus features of the slot and these will be explained below too.
Wild Games Slot Key Features
The first key feature of the slot is the standard Wild symbol which is the Wild Games logo and this can substitute for all symbols in the game apart from the three Medal Bonus symbols. It also awards the biggest prizes in the game with prizes ranging from 5 coins for 2 on a line, up to the maximum 3,000 coins for five across a single line.
There are also three Medals on the reels, Gold, Silver and Bronze and these are the Bonus symbols and these can trigger a bonus game when you land three or more of the same kind of medal across the reels in the base game.
In this bonus, you get to select from the medals that landed on the reels and you can pick one of the medals. Depending on the colour of the medal and how many medals you landed on the spin, you will win a prize of different values.
Three to five bronze medals will get you a cash prize of between 2x and 40x your standard bet. The same number of silvers get you between 3x and 70x your standard bet while for gold it is between 4x and 100x your standard bet. The more medals you land, the higher the value of your win will be.
The three main bonus features of the slot are triggered by landing the stacked Bulldog, Cheetah or Hippo symbols on the middle reel. If you cover this reel with one of these symbols, you launch the corresponding bonus game.
For the Bulldog, this is the Freestyle Swim Bonus feature and in this feature you get to select one of the three bulldogs competing in the Freestyle Swim event. If they finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd they win either a gold, silver or bronze medal and also 8 free spins.
The medal that the bulldog wins is the only medal that appears on the reels and whenever a medal appears it awards you additional free games. Four free games for gold, three for silver and two for bronze. You can activate up to 200 free spins by this method.
Three Cheetahs stacked on the middle reel unlocks the 100m Dash Bonus and in this game you again get to select a cheetah in the race., They will also win a medal and get you 8 free spins.
However, this time the medals offer different benefits. The Gold is an extra Wild and also an Expanding Wild filling the reel. The Silver is an Extra Wild and also clones one additional Wild on the reels at random. The Bronze medal gives you an Extra Wild symbol on the reels.
The final bonus game is the Balance Beam Bonus and this is triggered by Stacked Hippo symbols on the middle reel. For this bonus you get to choose from three different balance beam performances which the hippo performs and then the judges will give you a score based on that performance, plus you get 8 free spins.
The average of the judges scores is calculated and then your free spins are played and the average score is applied to any cash wins in this bonus as a multiplier. You will receive a multiplier of between x6 to x10 in this bonus game.
How to win at the Wild Games slot
The Wild Games slot is a fun slot to play and I like the way Playtech have really gone to great lengths to ensure that the slot plays differently to normal with different bonus triggers and some very cleverly done bonus games.
Indeed, while the base game is relatively benign, the Bonus Games are the key to unlocking the bigger wins in the slot. personally, I prefer the Bulldogs Freestyle Swim bonus as you can win lots of free spins in this round, followed by the Balance Beam bonus and lastly the 100m Dash bonus as I find that in terms of payouts this is how each of the bonuses tend to rank.
This is a fun slot to play and triggering the bonus features is really the best way to play, along with ensuring you don’t wager too much to bust your bankroll in a short amount of time as this is a slot which does reward players that invest a bit of time and effort into playing it.
