This coming weekend sees the 10th race of the Formula 1 Grand Prix season as we head towards the halfway point of the calendar and the chance for a drivers to enjoy a short break in the season. Before that though, the teams will convene at Silverstone in Northamptonshire to battle it out for supremacy in the oldest Formula 1 race in the calendar, the British Grand Prix.
Last year, Sebastian Vettel produced a fine drive to deny Lewis Hamilton a record breaking fifth win in a row and his sixth in total as the German steered his Ferrari home in first place. Hamilton though will want to get back to the top of the podium in front of what is expected to be a 150,000 sell out, especially after a less than stellar performance at the Austrian Grand Prix last time out.

Mercedes dominance of the season is clear from the points they have accrued and the lead their two drivers hold in the Driver’s Championship. It looks a foregone conclusion that Mercedes will win the constructors title, while the driver’s winner is almost certain to be one of their two drivers, with Hamilton the clear favourite at the minute.
The British Grand Prix
The British Grand Prix is the oldest race on the F1 calendar and along with the Italian Grand Prix, it is the only race to have appeared in every season of the F1 Championship. Silverstone is the current home to the race and has been since 1963. Initially sharing the race with Brands Hatch, Silverstone became the sole home in 1987, although the 2019 race could be the final year for the race in its present form as no new contract with Silverstone has been signed for the 2020 F1 season and beyond.
Former winners are a who’s who of the great and good in Formula 1 including Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, Fernando Alonso, David Coulthard, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart, Jack Brabham, Juan Manuel Fangio and Alberto Ascari.
Jim Clark, Alain Prost and Lewis Hamilton hold the record for most wins in the race with five each, one ahead of Nigel Mansell who has four.

The older more famous sections of the track still remain including Maggots, Becketts, Copse and Stowe.
British Grand Prix 2019 – Tips
For me, there are only five possible drivers who can win this race. I don’t think anybody outside of Red Bull, Mercedes or Ferrari can win the race and of the two Red Bull driver’s Pierre Gasly has been vastly outperformed by his team mate Max Verstappen, which makes me rule him out of the running too.
I think the winner is likely to be a Mercedes driver and that is no surprise and I think on home soil and after a poor display, by his standards, in Austria last time out, Lewis Hamilton will be desperate for a win to bounce back from than and to set a little history in becoming the most successful driver ever in British Grand Prix history.
Vettel is a two-time winner on this track and I think he will be pushing hard but I also feel that the confidence Max Verstappen has from winning in Austria will give him a real boost and I think Verstappen could just pip Vettel into second place, with the German third and Hamilton’s Mercedes team mate Bottas coming in fourth. Charles Leclerc, who finished a creditable second in Austria would then have to settle for fifth spot.
