This past week, the football season has well and truly got underway across Europe with teams in France, Spain, Germany and England all getting their season’s underway. Next week, Serie A will join them as the new 2021/22 football season kicks off across the continent.
Having already looked at the Premier League title race in detail last week, we are now going to turn our focus onto the four major leagues in Europe alongside the Premier League, La Liga in Spain, the Bundesliga in Germany, Serie A in Italy and Ligue 1 in France.
In each of these leagues some of European football’s biggest clubs will battle it out for domestic dominance, before they also try and stake a claim to become the best club in Europe by winning the Champions League.
That lofty goal is the aim for all the top sides across Europe this season, but we’re going to focus on their domestic situation at first and give you our tips for which teams will win their respective leagues this coming season.
All odds shown in this article were correct at the time of writing and were taken from bet365 Sport, which is an excellent choice for your outright winner betting options across the different European leagues.
If you are living in the United States and want to enjoy a bet on the European football this season, then BetRivers Sportsbook is an excellent choice given the wide array of betting markets available on soccer throughout the course of the year.
Let’s now take a look at our predictions for how the league’s will finish, starting with the Bundesliga.
Bundesliga League Preview
The big news in the Bundesliga all stems around Bayern Munich once again. The Champions for the past ten seasons in Germany have seen manager Hansi Flick take the national team job, with Julain Nagelsmann coming in as his replacement. Furthermore, they have also managed to snap up Dayot Upemecano, a powerful centre half, from rivals Red Bull Leipzig.
With Leipzig also losing Ibrahma Konate to Liverpool, their challenge looks to be a tough one to match last season and the other main team in the top three, Borussia Dortmund, have also lost a key man in Jadon Sancho, with Donyell Malen coming in to replace him.
As it stands though, I feel that Bayern Munich have increased their stranglehold on the title as Dortmund and Leipzig have both got a little weaker than last season, while Munich have improved their situation.
As such, Bayern is the smart pick here and in truth, they are the only pick for the winner of the Bundesliga.
I do think Bayer Leverkusen could force their way into contention for a top three spot as after losing their manager and two key defenders, I feel Leipzig may drift of the pace they set last season when finishing second to Bayern.
Bundesliga End Of Season Predictions
- Bayern Munich (3/10)
- Borussia Dortmund
- Bayer Leverkusen
- Red Bull Leipzig
Serie A League Preview
The big news this season in Serie A seemed to be what will happen to Cristiano Ronaldo, with Juventus reportedly ready to sell, however instead Juventus have brought in former boss Massimiliano Allegri and with their key rivals losing a number of top players, especially last season’s champions Inter Milan and their rivals AC Milan, I think that Juve look the team to beat in Serie A once again this season.
I don’t think it will all be straightforward though. Despite losing some players, Inter and AC should be competitive and with Jose Mourinho coming in at AS Roma, I expect them to be a much more competitive team than last season too.
Atalanta’s young side are also developing into a very good team and with Napoli and Lazio also involved, I think Serie A could be one of the more competitive leagues in Europe this season, but I can’t see anybody realistically challenging Juventus as things stand.
I am backing Jose Mourinho to steer Roma into second, with Atalanta third and champion’s Inter landing the fourth spot in the table.
Serie A End Of Season Predictions
- Juventus (4/5)
- AS Roma
- Atalanta
- Inter Milan
Ligue One League Preview
Probably the simplest pick to make of all four leagues we are previewing in this article is who will win Ligue 1. That’s because given their massive investment in world class players, including the legend Lionel Messi, Paris St Germain should win this league by an absolute country mile.
Joining Messi at PSG will be Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum, Achaf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma to add to a squad that already boasts the likes of Angel Di Maria, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Simone Verratti and Marquinhos.
On paper, there is no way any of the other teams in Ligue 1 can compete with PSG and after finishing second to Lille last season, I expect them to put that right comfortably this time around.
The real battle is for the spots behind them in France and I can see the likes of Marseille, Lyon, Monaco, St Etienne and Nice being amongst the teams battling it out for a place in the top four.
Ligue One End Of Season Predictions
- Paris St Germain (1/12)
- Lyon
- Marseille
- Nice
La Liga League Preview
Last season Atletico Madrid landed the top spot in La Liga, and after a difficult summer for the big three in Spain, caused chiefly by financial issues, it does look likely to be another uncertain year for those teams in particular.
All three of Real, Atletico and Barcelona are heavily in debt with the Catalans forced to let Lionel Messi go and looking to offload a number of other stars. Atletico are not in a much better position and neither are Real but they seem to be in a slightly stronger situation despite their massive debt.
Real have reappointed Carlo Ancelotti as manager who oversaw a very successful period in the clubs history a few years back and with Eden Hazard fit and Real’s attacking players all retained, although defensively they do lack a presence a centre back given Ramos and Varane’s departures. David Alaba though will be a useful signing.
As such, I think while the top three will remain unchanged, I see Real as winning the league ahead of Atletico with Barcelona in third and the fourth placed spot going to Sevilla ahead of Villarreal and Real Sociedad.
La Liga End Of Season Predictions
- Real Madrid (6/5)
- Atletico Madrid
- Barcelona
- Sevilla
