Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs ended a 50 year wait to land their second Superbowl victory with a 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers. That fourth-quarter performance which saw Kansas rally from 21-10 down to score 21 unanswered points in the final quarter earned quarterback Patrick Mahomes the MVP title aged just 24, the youngest ever player to claim the crown.
However, with no pre-season games played, the 32 teams in the NFL will begin the season starting the weekend of the 11th September with little to no pre-season behind them in terms of game time. Will this affect which teams are most likely to be in with a shout of the playoffs and potentially the Superbowl? Or will the cream always rise to the top? What will the affect of player movement and the draft be on the fortunes of the teams? All this will be answered when the season gets underway the weekend after this one coming.
Of course, interest in the NFL will be huge across the United States of America and If you would like to enjoy a bet on the outcome of the games each week, or want a bet on the outcome of the divisional titles, the championships or even the Superbowl itself, then you need to sign up with a reliable sports betting service in your state. Let’s now take a look at which teams we think will shine in the NFL this season, from both the AFC and NFC and which ones of those we think have the most chance of Superbowl success.
Who are the Superbowl Contenders in the NFL this season?
Kansas City Chiefs – 6/1 joint-favourites
One of the more eye-opening aspects of Kansas City’s success last season was that it was achieved with a relatively young team and one that has potential to become an even stronger presence in the NFL. With Patrick Mahomes leading the team, their explosive offense has become almost unstoppable for even the best defences. The Chiefs can still improve on special teams and defense and if they do then that will be a real worry for the teams hoping to succeed them as Superbowl Champions. The Chiefs are a worthy 6/1 joint favourites for the Superbowl and it would be a massive shock if they don’t at least reach the AFC Championship game.
Baltimore Ravens – 6/1 joint-favourites

With Lamar Jackson emerging as one of the stellar quarterbacks in the NFL last season, the Ravens turned potential into performance last season before they were eliminated in the playoffs by the Tennessee Titans. That will have been a real lesson for this young team and they should be better this season for that. A very solid, all round team who do not have any real weaknesses, along with the Chiefs, the Ravens are many people’s pick to be the AFC’s representative in the Superbowl this year and if they play as well as they did in 2019, that looks a decent shout.
San Francisco 49ers – 8/1
Built on their rock solid defense, the San Francisco 49ers dominated last year’s Superbowl for three quarters before the Chiefs broke free in the fourth to claim the win. They’ll be desperate to improve on that this season and the question will be whether Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle and the 49ers offense can match the stellar play of the defence. If they can make big strides again this season with the ball in their hands, then the 49ers could well be the team to beat in the NFC.
New Orleans Saints – 11/1
Stacked on offense with the likes of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Taysom. Hill, the Saints are always amongst the real challengers in the NFC and they will be once again this season. I fully expect them to win their division and make it into the playoffs and for me, alongside the 49ers, they are the team most likely to secure homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. If the Saints can do that then they could be well placed for a shot at the Superbowl.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 14/1
Having persuaded Tom Brady to join from New England and persuaded his old tight-end partner Rob Gronkowski out of retirement, the Buccaneers have gone for short term quality over long term building. As such, this has to be a strong season for this team given the amount of veterans they have on the roster, which also includes LeSean McCoy, Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul. The pieces for a successful season on Florida’s west coast are in place, the question is whether they can combine to form an effective team. Being in the Chief’s division won’t help but a playoff place should be their aim this season.
Tennessee Titans – 25/1
For me, one of the dark horses of this year is the Titans. They beat the Patriots and the Ravens in the playoffs last year before giving the Chiefs a real run for their money (and they did beat the Chiefs in the regular season). If Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill can get going once again and the Titans can improve their pass rush, which was their real weakness last season, this is a team that could not only win the AFC South, but which could also go deep in the playoffs once again.
Our Tip – Baltimore Ravens – 6/1
Baltimore fell short last season in the playoffs against the Titans but this young team has a years more experience and will be all the better for it. They have an explosive offense but also a strong defense and decent special teams and for me, they are the most rounded of all the teams on this list and well worthy of a bet to win the Superbowl.
