If there was one course that the LIV Golf Tour players would not have wanted to compete for the US Open on this coming weekend, then it is certain that the Brookline Country Club near Boston, Massachusetts is at the top of that list.
The setting for the famous 1999 “Battle of Brookline” at the Ryder Cup, documented in European Captain Mark James’ best selling book “Into the Bear Pit”, fans attending the course are well known for their partisan support and often borderline behaviour towards players they are not looking towards backing.
And with the LIV Golf Tour painted as the bad guys in the schism that is opening up in the world of golf at the moment, it seems likely that the US-based supporters in attendance will probably choose to vent their frustrations at those LIV Tour players playing in the event.
It certainly promises to be a very interesting four days of golf, and few days beforehand too as the fallout from the LIV Golf Invitational first tournament and the US PGA Tour’s reaction to it continues to drive a wedge through the world of golf.

That adds up to 19 holes, but that is because on the new layout, the 13th hole at the US Open will be a par four played over what is the first and second hole of the Primrose Course.

Our Tips
For the outright winner, we think Justin Thomas is due another big win after a third place at the RBC Canadian Open last weekend and his game will be perfectly suited to Brookline.
However, for a solid each way bet, Hideki Matsuyama has been in great form in recent weeks after a somewhat barren spell and the former Masters Champion could have a good week here.
