We are all set for another big weekend of Premier League games this week after what was an exciting and occasionally controversial weekend of games last week. Liverpool’s 100% record of wins came to an end at Old Trafford, chiefly due to some very inconsistent VAR decisions which saw Manchester United the chief beneficiary in a 1-1 draw. Manchester City closing the gap to six points thanks to their 2-0 win at Crystal Palace the day before.
For other teams it was a positive weekend too, Everton and Leicester City both recorded good wins, while Norwich City recorded a point and a clean sheet away from home in a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth. However, special praise should be reserved for Sheffield United who played superbly to deservedly defeat Arsenal 1-0 at Bramhall Lane on Monday night to move into the top half of the table.

Current Premier League Table
Matchday 10 Fixtures
- Southampton v Leicester (Fri)
The action in the Premier League kicks off on Friday evening this week with Leicester City’s trip to Southampton. The Saints ended a run of losing games with a draw away to Wolves last week, while Leicester came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1. For me, the Foxes are the much better of these two teams and while Southampton are generally decent at home, I do feel that Leicester have more than enough quality to land the win here. Tip – Leicester to win – 6/5.
- Manchester City v Aston Villa
A very good win away to Crystal Palace saw Manchester City cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to six points last weekend and they will be strong favourites to land another victory here, even though visitors Aston Villa are in a good run of form. The visitors will try to make it tough for City but I think there is a large gulf in class between the two teams and as such, I would expect Manchester City to win this game comfortably, precisely as the odds on them suggest they should. Tip – Manchester City to win – 1/10.
- Brighton v Everton

After going down to a last minute defeat to Aston Villa last week, Brighton will want to bounce back with a win against an Everton side that ended their poor run of form with a solid victory over West Ham at Goodison Park. Brighton have been dogged at home this season and won’t make this easy for Everton, whose away from in general has been pretty poor over the last 18 months. Brighton won this fixture 1-0 last season and I can see a similar result this time around. Tip – Brighton to win – 15/8.
- Watford v Bournemouth
Home side Watford are still to record a Premier League win this season and they will fancy their chances at home to a Bournemouth side that have lost their way after a good run of form a few weeks ago. The Cherries were held 0-0 at home by Norwich last time out but I feel they have the quality to bounce back from that against a Watford side that is sorely lacking confidence. This will be close, but I am backing Bournemouth to snatch a win here. Tip – Bournemouth to win – 2/1.
- West Ham v Sheffield United
Can Sheffield United keep their excellent start to the season going against a West Ham side that have lost their way in the last few weeks? The Hammers were well beaten by Everton last weekend while the Blades were superb winners over Arsenal at home. However, this road trip looks tough but I feel West Ham are badly lacking confidence at the moment and I feel the visitors have enough about them to come away from this game with a share of the spoils. Tip – Draw – 5/2.
- Burnley v Chelsea
Chelsea’s youthful attacking team have been best on the road this season where their counter-attacking play has been very effective, but they face a Burnley side well equipped to deal with them. Burnley are a tough side to beat at home and I think Chelsea’s youngsters may not enjoy the more physical side of the game that Burnley will indulge themselves in. This won’t be easy and while I can’t see the home side quite earning the win, I do feel a draw is on the cards. Tip – Draw – 3/1.
- Newcastle v Wolverhampton (Sun)

Newcastle were fine victors in their last home game against Manchester United and then followed that up with a creditable display away to Chelsea, where they lost only by a 1-0 scoreline. Steve Bruce will want a similar level of performance here against a Wolves side that have bounced back from a poor start to the season of late. A trip into central Europe in midweek won’t have helped Wolves prepare for this game and as such, I feel the best they will do here is to get a point. Tip – Draw – 11/5.
- Arsenal v Crystal Palace (Sun)
After a very disappointing performance away to Sheffield United last time out, Arsenal will want to bounce back to form with a win at home against their London rivals Crystal Palace. Palace were well beaten by Manchester City last time out, but they do have a knack of causing problems for the top teams on the road. However, Arsenal rarely lose two league games in a row and I think the Gunners should be well set up to get back to winning ways here. Tip – Arsenal to win – 4/9.
- Liverpool v Tottenham (Sun)
Liverpool didn’t play well last week against Manchester United but it took a controversially allowed goal from Marcus Rashford to deny them a ninth win at Old Trafford and in the final ten minutes, United were hanging on. The Reds will want a much better display at home to a Tottenham side that pushed them so hard in this fixture last season but who are badly out of form at the moment. If this game goes to form then this should be an easy win for the home side in what is a rematch of last year’s Champions League final – Tip – Liverpool to win – 1/2.
- Norwich City v Manchester United (Sun)
Both these teams will be satisfied with the draw that they earned last week and both will have an eye on picking up three points here. A win for Norwich would see them complete a home double against the two Manchester clubs, while a win for United would see them claim their first Premier League away win of the season and ease the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This will be close and I think a draw is the most likely result – Tip – Draw – 3/1.
