Alchemy is the art of creating gold out of base metals and items. Over the years, many people and eminent scientists have tried to do precisely that, with no success. What you have here is a game that is likely to delight anybody who wants to be a chemist as everything about the slot is designed around small vials, each of which contains either a different coloured liquid or an item inside.

There are four different shapes of vials, but somewhat oddly that doesn’t determine the value of the contents in terms of your wins as it is the contents of the vials which do this. That can be confusing when you have two different shaped vials offering the same prize, with two different coloured items inside them.

This brings me to my first complaint with the slot and that is I do feel that the design of the symbols does make it a little difficult to identify wins at first. You do get into things as the slot progresses but at first you think you have a win when similar vials crop up but then you understand the vial shape doesn’t matter, just what is inside and it does become easier, although the yellow and orange liquids are somewhat similar in colour and not easy to ascertain.

The design of the slot is nice enough with the setting being a laboratory of some kind with books and vials of bubbling liquid all lit up by a single candle and a dim light in the background. A suitably mysterious sound track plays as you spin the reels but in general the sound effects on the slot are somewhat few in number and seem to trigger more at random than when something happens in the game.

The reel set up is that of a 5×3 format and there are a total of 20 selectable pay lines in play, though I would strongly suggest that to get the best out of the slot you need to play all 20 per spin. You can change the value of your coins on the spin so you can bet from £0.20 per spin up to £40.00 per spin, which gives you a nice mix of wagers and will appeal to lower and medium stakes players in particular.

The jackpot though is very tempting with 5,000 coins available to be won and of course, there are a number of other bonus features on the slot too, which we will explore in more detail below.

The lower value symbols are the two types of vials containing liquid and these offer pay outs from 5 coins up to 200 coins. The higher value vials contain the four playing card suits, the clubs and spades each offer the lowest pays of 20 coins to 400 coins, with the Diamond and Heart both paying out small amounts for two on a pay line (4 and 5 coins respectively) but also offering higher value wins for five on a line of 750 and 1,500 coins respectively.

The first key feature of the slot is the Wild symbol which is easily recognisable as it is the vial with the word Wild written across the front. This symbol can substitute for any of the high or lower value symbols outlined above to create bigger value or additional winning lines.

However you can also land bigger value wins by landing wilds in succession across the reels on a pay line. The wins range from 2 coins for a single Wild up to the jackpot of 5,000 coins for landing five on a winning line.

The other big feature of the slot is the Free Games bonus round which is triggered when you land the Scatter Symbol (which is the Potion Commotion logo) anywhere across the reels. This triggers an automatic pay out of between 2 x your stake and 100 x your stake depending on whether you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the Scatters across the reels and then you also get your Free Spins bonus.

How many Free Spins you get depends on how many scatters you land. Three earns you 10 Free Spins, four earns you 15 Free Spins while the maximum five lands you 20 Free Games.  The best aspect of Free Spins though is that allw ins during the bonus feature are subject to a 3x multiplier and that you can re-trigger the bonus by landing three or more of the Scatter symbols across the reels once again.

How to win at the Potion Commotion Slot

The first thing that you will notice about the Potion Commotion slot is that it is a lower to medium variance game and that you do win relatively frequently, but the majority of these wins are very low in value and many do not cover your initial bet. However, in the base game, these tend to get topped up from time to time with some higher value wins which means that the base game is unlikely to take too big a bite out of your bankroll.

The bigger value wins in the base game are much harder to hit however and it is rare to get one of the very big wins (over 750 coins) on the reels. However, your chances of landing a healthy profit are much better if you can access the bonus features of the slot.

The Wild is a nice bonus and you can land it across the reels and it can produce some big wins, including the 5,000 coin jackpot, but it doesn’t trigger very often compared to some games and so it tends not to be the best at seeing you into a profit.

The real key to the Potion Commotion slot is that Free Spins bonus round and especially if you can trigger it with four or five Scatters as those extra Free Spins really can allow you land some much more sizeable wins, the same is true if you re-trigger the bonus as this can also land you extra spins and improve the cumulative value of your win.

It is worth noting though that wins in Free Spins are somewhat variable and you can win small amounts as well as considerably larger amounts depending on how the slot plays.
