We’re going to come right out and say it. We are HUGE fans of podcasts about sports.
In fact, we’re huge fans of podcasts in general. Whether it’s current affairs, history or even poker podcasts, we’ve got a tonne of variety on our feed.
But as big sports fans ourselves, nothing quite beats learning more about one of our greatest interests. We adore learning wild and wacky stories from sports history, getting analysis on recent games and getting the latest goss on upcoming events. Hello World Cup, PDC World Darts Championship, et al.
Like betting on sports events (bet365 bonus code here), it just adds an extra little dimension to our love of sports. And also it makes daily tasks that little bit more interesting. When you can listen to a podcast about sports while doing the washing up or commuting to work, you’ll get a bit more of a kick from it.
So without further ado, here are some of the podcasts, past and present, that we think you should add to your feed.
Podcasts about sports
The one that tackles female football
Women’s football is quickly gaining more and more popularity and attention. And we were delighted with BBC 5 Live came out with The Players to cover all aspects of the female game.
Yes, there’s plenty about the Women’s Super League, among lots of other interesting aspects. At the helm of the show is Bex Smith (who just happens to have made a name for herself on the pitch at the World Cup and the Olympics).
Throughout the series, she interviews lots of different people and covers different aspects of the beautiful game. Definitely a great insiders’ view.
The one with a tonne of celebs
What is the best way to get celebrities on your podcast? Be a celebrity yourself! So if you’re looking for a star-studded line up, check out Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson for your next fix.
He has interviewed plenty of celebrities from the non-sporting world (including The Game, Steve-O and Rosie Perez), but we just love when he gets up close and personal with sports stars. Some of our favourite of these podcasts about sports include the episodes featuring Tony Hawk, Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett and Claressa Shields.
The one that goes deep
30 for 30 is an ESPN podcast about sports that is superbly made. This is a series of sports documentaries that go really deep on one specific topic or story.
In fact, we think it’s so compelling that even if you’re not into sports, or the particular sport covered in a certain series, you’ll still get a lot from listening. Sometimes you’ll get a standalone episode, but often these are multi-episode series.
Looking for a place to start? If you’re into basketball, you should get out the King of Crenshaw, all about the legendary Nipsey Hussle.
The one all about the NFL
The Athletic Football Show is tailor-made for NFL super fans. This show is famously on-the-pulse when it comes to the NFL and you’re likely to never have to wait too long for analysis on the latest goss. It even comes out several times a day when there’s a call for it during the season.
NFL writer and host of this podcast Robert Mays certainly has his work cut out for him, as he navigates drama, strategy and a whole lot more. Of course, he has help from the likes of Diante Lee, Nate Tice and Mike Sando too.
Would you be interested in it if you’re not that into the NFL? Probably not. But is it a must-listen if you’re a die-hard fan? Absolutely. And if you want to catch up on the latest before the big Thanksgiving games, then now’s the time to do it.
