There’s no doubting that 2018 was a fantastic year for sport and sports betting with some fantastic sporting events throughout the year which saw some of the favourites confirm themselves as the top dogs in their chosen field, while in others it was a chance for the underdogs to shine and claim an unexpected victory.
2019 is promising to be an equally exciting year with a number of massive sports events throughout the year. In this article, we are going to go through a large number of these events and give you our selections (and the early bird prices from bet365) on who we think stands a great chance of landing success at that particular sporting event.

Six Nations Rugby
This year’s Six Nations serves as a warm up for the Rugby World Cup later in the year and Ireland are the team to beat having secured a Grand Slam back in 2018. In truth, it is hard to see the Irish coming up short here as they are the dominant force in this event at the moment and while I can see England improving, I still think they are well short of the Irish team at the moment.
Six Nations Tip – Ireland – 5/6 at bet365
F1 World Championship
The F1 season in 2019 will be a long one, with the final race of the year not being contested until December. Lewis Hamilton will be back to try and win what would be his sixth World Title with Mercedes once again, and it seems likely that Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari will once again be his closest rival. The season begins in March in Melbourne Australia and in truth, it is hard to see how any team can end Hamilton and Mercedes dominance of the sport.
F1 Drivers Championship Tip – Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – 8/11 at bet365
Cricket World Cup
England will be the host nation of this summer’s Cricket World Cup and the home side are amongst the favourites to win the trophy alongside India, Australia and South Africa. England’s record on home soil in these big events has not been great however and they have suffered some ignominious defeats in the past. For me, India remain the strongest all-round team and I think they’ll be the ones celebrating in the final in July.
Cricket World Cup Tip – India – 3/1 at bet365
UEFA Nations League Finals
Portugal welcome the other three Nations League finalists, England, Switzerland and the Netherlands in the summer for two semifinals, and then the final and third place playoff game to decide who wins the first ever Nations League event. England are the bookies slight favourites here, but I think the solid bet is the host nation, who could well recall Cristiano Ronaldo for one last hurrah on home soil.
Nations League Final Tip – Portugal – 2/1 at bet365
Women’s FIFA World Cup Finals
24 of the top women’s international teams will head to France in June to compete in the World Cup Finals this summer. Both England and Scotland (who have been drawn together in Group D and who will face each other in the opening match of that group on June 9) will represent the home nations, with Phil Neville’s Lionesses one of the favourites to win the tournament. Sweden, France, Japan, Norway, Brazil and the United States will be amongst the favourites for the tournament
Women’s World Cup Finals Tip – United States – (odds not yet available)
Copa America
The ten big South American nations, plus Japan and Qatar as specially invited teams, will compete in the 2019 Copa American tournament. With Mexico and the United States notable absentees, the tournament will be played in Brazil by 12 teams throughout June and July. Chile come into the tournament as the holders of the trophy, but for me, Brazil being on home soil hands the famous South American nation all the ace cards in this tournament.

African Cup of Nations
After being moved in the calendar from January/February time, the 2019 African Cup of Nations will take place from the 15th June to 13th July and will feature 24 of Africa’s finest teams with the event taking place either in Egypt or South Africa, pending the decision being made on 9th January 2019. Cameroon are the current holders of the title. 14 of the 24 finalists are already known and include Madagadscar and Mauritania, both making their 1st finals appearance, as well as more established teams such as seven times Champions Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana and the Ivory Coast.  The remaining qualifiers will be decided over the early months of 2019.

Ashes Series
Following on from the Cricket World Cup, the Australian side will stay on in the UK to compete in the 2019 Ashes Series. After a 4-0 win over England on home soil in 2017/18, the Aussies will be hoping to land their first win on English soil since 2001. However, England are in decent shape and after winning their last four Ashes series contested in the UK, I fancy them to do the same again this summer.
Ashes Tip – England – 11/10
Rugby World Cup
Twenty of the top Rugby Union nations from all around the globe will battle it out in Japan to become the 2019 World Champions. New Zealand, winners of the last two tournaments and three-time winners, will start as the favourites, but Ireland have beaten the All Blacks twice in recent times and could pose a significant threat while the likes of England, South Africa, Australia and France can never be overlooked. The Irish have underperformed in past World Cup tournaments, I don’t think they’ll do so this time around in Japan.
Rugby World Cup Tip – Ireland – 3/1
