It may have been one of the shortest pre-seasons on record and with the transfer window still having almost a month to rumble on for, it is strange to see that the new Premier League season 2020/21 will get underway this weekend, just a month or so after the last one ended.

With the start of the new campaign, many football fans will be looking forward to placing their bets for the season on a number of popular markets, such as which teams will win the Premier League, who will finish in the top six, who will be relegated and which player will be the top goalscorer, or even named the PFA Player of the Year. In this article, we are going to take a look at a number of these popular outright season-long bets and give you our tips for each.
Then hopefully if you do have a flutter, you will be better informed!

Premier League Betting Tips
Premier League – Outright Winner
- Top Picks – Manchester City (4/5), Liverpool (9/4)
- Outside Bets – Chelsea (10/1), Manchester United (16/1), Arsenal (33/1), Tottenham (150/1)
There’s no doubt Manchester City and Liverpool will lead the betting here by a considerable margin and it is interesting that after their transfer business, City are now the clear favourites ahead of the current Champions who finished 18 points ahead of them last season. While I expect the gap to close between those two teams and the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs to get closer to the top two, I don’t think it is as quite cut and dried a City win as the odds make it appear.
Winning a Premier League is tough and hanging onto it is even tougher. If Liverpool sign Thiago, or another creative midfielder before the end of the transfer window, those 9/4 odds will be very good value. I can’t see any of the outsiders breaking the top two’s stranglehold this season and it could be another very close one again.
- Our Pick – If Liverpool sign Thiago, grab the 9/4 while it is available, if not then Manchester City is the smart bet here even at 4/5.
Premier League – Top Six Finish
- Top Picks – Manchester City (1/100), Liverpool (1/100), Chelsea (1/12), Man Utd (1/10), Arsenal (4/7), Tottenham (4/7)
- Outside Bets – Leicester (11/4), Wolves (9/4), Everton (9/2), Southampton (14/1), Leeds (12/1)
I have to be honest and say that the odds on the top six in the Premier League in the betting are not at all appealing and it does indicate just how much of a stranglehold these teams have had on the top six places in the Premier League over the years.
The question is therefore can anybody break into that elite group and while Leicester did it this season, I am not sure they will next. For me Wolves seem the most likely at 9/4 and if I was going to bet on this market, I’d pick them over Spurs to finish top six.
- Our Pick – Wolves (9/4)
Premier League – To be Relegated
- Top Picks – West Brom (Evens), Fulham (11/10), Aston Villa (7/4),
- Outside Bets – Crystal Palace (2/1), Newcastle (9/4), Burnley (3/1), Sheff Utd (10/3), Brighton (7/2), Leeds (7/2), West Ham (9/2)
The newly promoted sides always feature heavily in this market and I am surprised to see Leeds at 7/2 here, especially with the likes of Burnley and Sheff Utd ranked at shorter odds than them. With three teams going down I think this is a tough market to pick but I do think at least one newly promoted team will go down
- Our Picks – West Brom (Evens), Crystal Palace (2/1), Brighton (7/2)
Premier League – Top Goalscorer
- Top Picks – Mo Salah (5/1), Harry Kane (11/2), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (6/1), Sergio Aguero (7/1)
- Outside Bets – Timo Werner (9/1), Raheem Sterling (12/1), Sadio Mane (14/1), Jamie Vardy (16/1), Gabriel Jesus (16/1), Marcus Rashford (20/1), Anthony Martial (20/1), Danny Ings (20/1)
It’s the usual suspects in the running in the pre-season betting for the Top Goalscorer prize and in truth it is hard to look outside of this group. You could make a case for Mason Greenwood if he establishes himself at Manchester United, but other than that I think it is between the players listed above and for my money, I think Aubameyang is the best option here given that he is Arsenal’s main man and the player Mikel Arteta wants to build the team around.
- Our Picks – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (6/1)
Premier League – PFA Player of the Year
- Top Picks – Kevin de Bruyne (7/2), Raheem Sterling (6/1)
- Outside Bets – Harry Kane (12/1), Bruno Fernandes (12/1), Mo Salah (12/1), Sergio Aguero (16/1), Virgil van Dijk (16/1), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (20/1), Sadio Mane (20/1)
Picking the player of the year is always a tough call and if Man City do win the league then I’d agree that either de Bruyne or Sterling is most likely the recipient of this award. However, for a bet on a great season I think Bruno Fernandes is an intriguing bet at 12/1 but I’d go for Aubameyang to score enough goals to propel him into contention here.
- Our Pick – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (20/1)
