We landed five out of the ten Premier League scores last time out, which was a fortnight back, but we also landed at least three (with a couple of games still to go) of our Nations League tips this weekend too, so we’re still well in profit for the season so far, although I would like to improve on that success rate this week.

That result allowed Chelsea to leapfrog above Liverpool into second place in the table on goal difference by virtue of their solid 3-0 victory over Southampton on the road. A narrow win for Spurs over Cardiff by a 1-0 scoreline and Arsenal’s thumping 5-1 win away to Fulham means that the two London giants are just two points further back in the table now, with Bournemouth the unlikely sixth placed team after their brilliant 4-0 win away at Watford.
The comeback of the weekend came at Old Trafford where under-fire Jose Mourinho saw his Man Utd team come from 2-0 down to Newcastle to claim a 3-2 win in fine style, a result which the former Chelsea boss will hope can be the catalyst for some improved form this season.
Games following an international break can be pretty tricky, with only limited time for managers to get their players prepared for the matches across the weekend. As such, with some players also picking up injuries during the break, we may see a few changes to the usual teams this weekend.

The big game of the weekend comes at Stamford Bridge as in form Chelsea will take on a Manchester United side out of sorts so far this season but who did come back from 2-0 down to defeat Newcastle last time out. That should be a cracker as should the London derby at the London Stadium with West Ham taking on Tottenham. Man City face Burnley and Liverpool take on Huddersfield in two games that these teams will be looking to win, while there is a cracker to enjoy on Monday night as Leicester travel to take on a resurgent Arsenal who are on a six game winning run in the Premier League.
Here’s my selections for each of the ten games in the Premier League this weekend from Saturday lunchtime through to Monday night.
- Chelsea v Manchester United – Home Win
The biggest game of the weekend kicks the action off on Saturday lunchtime with Chelsea taking on Manchester United in what should be an interesting game. Chelsea are the form side and United will know another defeat here will heap more pressure on the team and manager Jose Mourinho. However with Eden Hazard in stunning form, it is hard to see anything but a win for the home side here.
- Bournemouth v Southampton – Home Win
A south-coast derby game and one which sees the teams in contrasting form heading into it. Bournemouth have been in superb form to lie 6th in the table and they thumped Watford 4-0 at Vicarage Road last time out. Southampton were well beaten 3-0 at home by Chelsea and in truth, I can’t see much hope for Mark Hughes team here as I am backing Bournemouth to win relatively comfortably, even though their record against the Saints isn’t that great.
- Cardiff City v Fulham – Away Win
These two newly promoted sides have found life much tougher in the top flight and while Fulham have scored more hoals, they have also conceded four more than Cardiff and that is a real worry for Slavisa Jokanovic. Despite that, I think Fulham are a much stronger attacking team than Cardiff and I think that in Aleksandar Mitrovic, they have a player who has the physicality to perhaps grab them a surprise win here.
- Manchester City v Burnley – Home Win
Burnley’s recent form has improved with eight points collected in their last four games, but they now face arguably the toughest trip of the season as they go to the Etihad to take on the Champions. Manchester City will rue Riyad Mahrez penalty miss against Liverpool, but they won’t have any problems securing the three points here I am sure.
- Newcastle United v Brighton – Home Win
Brighton are not the best away team in the Premier League to say the least, and I think Newcastle’s run of matches has been extremely tough, arguably the toughest of any team in the Premier League. I don’t think Rafa Benitez’ team are as bad as their 19th place in the table suggests and I think this game represents a great opportunity for them to collect their first win of the season. It will be close, but I am backing the home side to grab a narrow win here.
- West Ham v Tottenham – Draw
This should be a cracking London derby. West Ham will want to bounce back from their poor defeat at Brighton, while Spurs were less than stellar in their 1-0 win over Cardiff last time out. With Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen doubts, Spurs may rely on Harry Kane more than usual, but this is a game West Ham have a good record in and as such, with Arnautovic in fine form, I am backing them to earn a point from this encounter on Saturday.
- Wolves v Watford – Home Win
Watford were taught a lesson last time out by a Bournemouth team who put them to the sword in clinical fashion. Their task won’t get any easier against a strong Wolves team, who have been very tight defensively this season and who play lovely possession football. Wolves come on strong late in games and I can see them doing that here to secure a home win against the Hornets.
- Huddersfield Town v Liverpool – Away Win
Liverpool have come through a hugely difficult and exhausting run of games and they will want to get back to winning ways here against a Huddersfield side without a win all season long. The Terriers earned a good point at Burnley last time out, but even if Liverpool are missing a player or two through injury, the Reds should have enough quality to get the job done here.
- Everton v Crystal Palace – Home Win
Crystal Palace don’t concede a huge amount of goals (just 9 in their 8 games so far) but scoring has been their achilles heel with just five goals so far this season. That’s not going to be enough against an Everton side that has won its last two games and who look like they are slowly improving under Marco Silva, especially going forward. I can’t see many goals in this one, but the ones that are scored, I believe will be for the home side.
- Arsenal v Leicester City – Home Win
The Gunners were electric when beating Fulham 5-1 at Craven Cottage last time out, whereas Leicester had a rare poor day losing at home to Everton. The Foxes have done well against the top teams this season and Arsenal still don’t look great defensively, but that said, the way Lacazette, Ramsey, Aubameyang and Ozil are playing at the moment, they look capable of beating almost any side and I think the home fans will be celebrating once again here.
