The third round of fixtures in the 2018-2019 Premier League has seen a couple of title contenders drop points, while four of the six teams with 100% records after two games have maintained that record after three.
The first of the 100% records to go was current Champions Manchester City who were held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers in what was an exciting game, where both teams could and perhaps should have scored more than the single goal both managed during the game.
Then in the afternoon on Saturday, Bournemouth came back from 2-0 down against Everton to claim a 2-2 draw in a match that saw both teams reduced to 10-men prior to half time.
The four teams retaining their 100% records therefore were Chelsea, who defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park, Liverpool, who were 1-0 winners over Brighton at Anfield, Watford, who defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Vicarage Road and lastly Tottenham, who were the big winners of the weekend following their 3-0 hammering of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Outlined below is our tips on each of the ten games being played in the Premier League this weekend.
- Leicester City v Liverpool – Draw
Leicester have an excellent recent record over Liverpool at home in recent times and they have started the season well, winning both of their last two games. Liverpool have won all of their three games so far however, but their strike force hasn’t quite clicked into top gear. If they don’t again, then I can see this being a draw and given that the Reds are not quite firing on all cylinders in attack, I feel this one will end all square.
- Crystal Palace v Southampton – Home Win
I think Palace have played pretty well in their last two games without reward while Southampton fell to a last gasp sucker punch winner at home to Leicester last time out. I am really not convinced by the Saints this year and I feel they will struggle and as such, I am backing Palace to get a strong result here in front of their home crowd.
- Everton v Huddersfield – Home Win
Everton have had two players red-carded already this season and they’ll need to improve that record if they are to keep making progress up the table. That said, Huddersfield at home should be a comfortable three points for the toffees with David Wagner’s side struggling both to score goals and keep them out at the other end. Everton will miss the suspended Richarlison however and that could impact their attacking threat here, but not enough to stop them winning.
- Brighton v Fulham – Home Win
Both these sides are in mid-table after three games and I think they’ll be relatively happy with that. Fulham scored four last time out against Burnley but I think they’ll find Brighton a tougher nut to crack, especially away from home. The Seagulls beat Manchester United on home soil last time they played here and were narrowly beaten at Anfield last weekend but I am backing them to snatch a narrow win here.
- Chelsea v Bournemouth – Home Win
Two early season pace-setters in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea defending their 100% start to the season against a Bournemouth side with seven points from three games. The Cherries have started brightly but this is a much tougher test than they have faced previously this season and I think at home, Chelsea are looking very strong and I am backing them to get a solid win here.
- West Ham v Wolves – Draw
The Hammers sit at the bottom of the Premier League pointless after three games and in desperate need of something from this game. Wolves played very well against Manchester City last time out and have shown they are Premier League quality. This is a tricky game for the Hammers, one they feel they perhaps should win but one I feel Wolves could equally spring a surprise, hence I am going down the middle here for the draw.
- Manchester City v Newcastle – Home Win
After their draw with Wolves last weekend, Manchester City will be seeking to bounce back strongly against Newcastle United at the Etihad and in truth, they should do so. Newcastle were very defensive against Chelsea and I cannot see Rafa Benitez changing that approach here. I think it is a damage limitation exercise for Newcastle but I don’t think it will work and I can see City winning this one very comfortably.
- Cardiff City v Arsenal – Away Win
It’s been a tough start for Arsenal with two defeats followed by an unconvincing 3-1 win over West Ham United last time out. However that win will have boosted the Gunners belief a great deal and with a trip to Cardiff on the cards, who are yet to score a Premier League goal this season, I think the Gunners are a sure-fire certainty to grab a second win in a row here and I’d be surprised if they concede a goal in the process.
- Watford v Tottenham – Away Win
Two sides with 100% records clash on Sunday afternoon at Vicarage Road and it should be a cracker. Watford have made a brilliant start to the season so far, but they face a Spurs team that will be absolutely brimming with confidence following their 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Watford have the players to cause Spurs a few problems, but I think Spurs will get the job done here and record a narrow win.
- Burnley v Manchester United – Away Win
Both these sides have lost two of their opening three games and have endured a miserable start this season, so both will be low on confidence heading into this game. Last season, I would have felt Burnley had a chance here, but I think their form is so poor at the moment and they are conceding so many goals, that a United side even low on confidence, but high on quality, should have enough to get the job done here. I don’t think this will be a game for the purist but I do think United will just about scrape the win.
