I have to be brutally honest and say that I don’t really get the appeal of professional wrestling. Men covered in babyoil and facepaint, wrapping themselves in tight Spandex to perform intimate gymnastics to the strangest of storylines isn’t really my cup of tea. However, I must confess, millions don’t think the same way as me as it is hugely popular in certain parts of the world such as the US and Mexico and it is this second country that is the inspiration for Thunderkick’s new Luchadora slot.
You can play the game now at Bet365 Vegas, but if you want to find out a little more about it first then read on as this is a highly volatile slot which will not just pin you to the floor, but will have your wallet empty in double-quick time if you let it. However, if you play at the right bet level for your bankroll size then what you will find is arguably one of the best slot releases of the year that is packed with innovative and unusual features and which offers equal enjoyment in the base game and all the different bonus features.
What you have here is a 5x4 reel slot which has a total of 30 paylines in play. You can play from 10p to £100 per spin across all devices and it is set against a colourful backdrop, bedecked with posters advertising the latest wrestling bouts. In each of the four corners of the reels, you will also see a gold square. These are the Ring Corner squares and they play a key role in the Ring Corner bonus which we will explore in more detail below.
Key Features
The symbols on the reels are nice and easy to understand in the Luchadora slot. The four different coloured peppers (red, orange, yellow and green) are the low value symbols, while each of the four different wrestlers, El Toro (the Bull), El Serpiente (the Serpent), El Rayo (the Ray) and El Pantera (the Panther) are the higher value symbols. It’s all very easy to follow, but there are a couple of other symbols on the reels that you need to be aware of.
The first of these is the Luchadora symbol, which is the highest value symbol on the slot offering up to 250 times your stake for five on a payline. There is also the Misterioso Champion symbol, which again offers a slightly smaller payout. However these symbols do not form part of the random Ring Corner bonus, unlike the four wrestling symbols outlined above. When a wrestler lands in one of the four Ring Corner bonus boxes, all other examples of that symbol on the reel will turn Wild which can lead to some very sizeable multiple payline wins, with all symbols being stacked on the reels.
This is the only Wild feature in the game and it doesn’t trigger that often (as you would expect from a higher variance slot) but when it does trigger it can reward you with some of the best value wins in the base game, so it is well worth trying to get this feature triggered as many times as you can.
There is another bonus features accessed by landing the Lucha Smackdown symbol on the fifth reel in the base game. When this occurs you receive either a cash prize based on your stake of 2x to 15x your stake, alternatively, you could also trigger the Lucha Bonus Free Spins feature with either 7, 11 or 15 free spins.
You can also trigger the Lucha Bonus Free Spins round by landing three, four or five of these scatter symbols anywhere across the reels on a single spin. Landing them will give you 7, 11 or 15 free spins respectively. During free spins, every time you land a wrestler in the Ring Corner feature, they will stick there as a wild and turn all other examples of that wrestler Wild for the remaining free spins.
Furthermore, if you manage to land all four of the different wrestler Wilds in each of the four corners of the slot on a single spin during free spins, then the Underdog symbol will turn into the higher paying Luchadora symbol, offering you a chance of a much bigger payout. In addition, if you land the Lucha Smackdown symbol on a Ring Corner spot, then this can convert one of the wrestlers into a Wild too which also remains in place for the remainder of the spins.
How to win at the Luchadora Slot
The first key to winning on the Luchadora slot, and I cannot stress this highly enough, is to ensure you play at a level that will allow your bankroll to sustain you for a lengthy period of spins. This is a highly volatile game and you will need to trigger the main features in order to land the bigger value wins. That usually means a lengthy session, so ensuring the right bet size is the first aspect of your strategy to get right.
Secondly, while you can pick up some nice sized wins using the Ring Corner feature in the base game, it is when you get into the Free Spins bonus round that the game starts to proffer up some of its larger cash prizes. It’s not easy to hit the bonuses however (which is another reason why a sizeable bankroll is advisable) and you will need patience to try and land the free spins bonus and give yourself a chance of a sizeable win.
The Lucha Smackdown feature can offer you some nice sized cash prizes of between 2x and 15x your stake when it comes along and these are welcome additions to your cash pot, but it is better served when you manage to trigger the free spins from it as you tend to win more from them than you do the original cash award. Of course, with free spins the more you can land the better so hitting the maximum 15 either from the Smackdown feature or from landing five of the scatter symbols across the reels is always the best option.
