Some weekends are blessed with so many sporting events that it is hard to pick just one to focus on, well that is very much the case this weekend with a number of massive sporting events taking place all over the world.
With so many great sporting events to watch, and enjoy a bet on, you can be sure that many people will be hitting the likes of bet365 Sport to enjoy a wager on the game, possibly with some of the remaining bet365 credits from their introductory offer to the site.
If you are based in the United States, then BetRivers Sportsbook is a great site for a massive range of sports betting options for all the events that we are going to preview in this blog post.
So what are the big sporting events that we should look forward to this weekend? Let’s start with one of the biggest remaining dates in the horse racing calendar when the last classic of the flat racing season is contested at Doncaster.
St Leger Festival – Doncaster – Wednesday to Saturday
This week sees one of the last big meets of the flat racing season at Doncaster, the St Leger Festival is always one of the spectacles of September for horse racing fans and the race after which the festival gets its name takes place on Saturday at 3.35pm UK time.
Hurricane Lane (4/6) is likely to start the race as the favourite after impressive wins in both France and Ireland of late and the horse is hotly tipped to make that a trio of wins here. However, the likes of High Definition (9/1), Sir Lucan (14/1), The Mediterranean (16/1), Mojo Star (15/2) and Ottoman Emperor (11/2) are likely to give the favourite a run for its money.
You can enjoy all four days of racing with bet365 Sport, including a number of different horse racing themed offers available on the site.
Fifth Test Match – England V India (Starts Friday)
After India snatched a superb victory in the fourth test last weekend, the fifth and final test between England and their visitors takes place from Friday this week, with England needing to win to rescue a 2-2 draw in what has been a competitive and entertaining series.
The fifth test will have to go some to match the drama of the fourth test which ebbed and flowed throughout the five days of action, until India’s bowlers grabbed the upper hand on the fifth day and bowled out England with the home side still well short of India’s total.
There will be plenty of great In Play betting action to enjoy with bet365 across the five days of action, should the match last that long, as well as a wide range of pre-match bets on the game. Currently both England and India are 15/8 to win the fifth test, with the 7/4 on the draw being the slight favourite for how the test will finish.
Cristiano Ronaldo Returns To The Premier League!
There is no doubt that Manchester United completing the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo was the deal of the transfer window in the summer and the Portuguese legend is set to make his second debut for his club this weekend when the Red Devils face Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
With Daniel James having been offloaded to Leeds to make room for Ronaldo, United will likely give him a full debut given that Jadon Sancho has picked up an injury while away with England, Marcus Rashford is injured and Anthony Martial looks out of favour at the club at the moment.
Newcastle fans will be wondering how much more bad luck will befall them given that they conceded a 96th minute equaliser last time out to Southampton and the future of their club in terms of ownership has still not been concluded over the summer.
Ronaldo is 4/11 to score anytime in this game, while you can back him at 15/8 to be either the first or the last goalscorer in the match and I think the 15/8 options are clearly the better value, although more difficult to pick.
This should be a comfortable win against Manchester United against a team that they have enjoyed regular successes over in the last couple of decades and it is hard to see Newcastle being able to take anything away from this game.
F1 Italian Grand Prix Monza – Sunday
The Italian Grand Prix takes place this weekend at Monza in Italy just a week after Max Verstappen’s excellent victory in the Dutch Grand Prix in front of a delighted home crowd.
Verstappen leads Lewis Hamilton by three points in the Driver’s Championship, scoring 224.5 points to Hamilton’s 221.5, with Valtteri Bottas 98.5 points behind his team mate in third place.
In the Constructors title race, Mercedes lead Red Bull by 22 points in what is shaping up to be a very exciting end to the season in both competitions.
One of the most famous and fastest courses in the F1 calendar, Monza has been home to the Italian Grand Prix for many years and the expectation is that it will be Verstappen and Hamilton that will be locking horns in the race once again.
Hamilton is the very slight even money favourite to win the race, with Max Verstappen at 11/10. The two are comfortably ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who is 11/1 to win the race while Verstappen’s team mate Sergio Perez is 25/1.
This promises to be a hugely exciting race this weekend and it is going to be fascinating to see whether Hamilton or Verstappen come out on top. My money is on the Dutchman to take the chequered flag first this weekend.
NFL Season Starts
This weekend sees the start of the regular season in the NFL. The Super Bowl holders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers will start the season with a home game against the Dallas Cowboys and then on Sunday, the majority of teams will get their season underway.
The full list of 16 matches this weekend is as follows:
- Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Fri)
- Arizona Cardinals @ Tennessee Titans
- Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans
- Los Angeles Chargers @ Washington Football Team
- Minnesota Vikings @ Cincinnati Bengals
- New York Jets @ Carolina Panthers
- Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons
- Pittsburgh Steelers @ Buffalo Bills
- Seattle Seahawks @ Indianapolis Colts
- San Francisco 49ers @ Detroit Lions
- Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs
- Denver Broncos @ New York Giants
- Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints
- Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots
- Chicago Bears @ Los Angeles Rams (Mon)
- Baltimore Ravens @ Las Vegas Raiders (Tue)
Most punters fancy either Kansas City or Tampa Bay to make another run at the Super Bowl this year, but teams like Baltimore,, Buffalo, Tennessee, Dallas and the San Francisco 49ers are also amongst those that have been popular to back on the outright winner market for next year’s Super Bowl.
Bet365 offers a wide selection of bets on each game including Game Line bets, as well as standard Props bets.
Add to that an exhibition boxing match between for Cruiserweight and Heavyweight Champion of the world David Haye and his friend Joe Fournier as well as the US Open Tennis Finals and the World Cup of Darts getting underway on Thursday featuring 32 nations competing to be the World Cup winners, it is going to be a hugely enjoyable weekend of sport!
