Wondering how to play Sic Bo?
Well, you’re not alone. Lots of people scratch their head when it comes to this game. It’s simply not as popular as the likes of roulette, baccarat or blackjack, so people aren’t quite as familiar with it compared to other table games.
Having said that, Sic Bo is in no way difficult to pick up. And for that reason, we’re confident that you’ll be comfortable enough (and excited to) play Sic Bo as soon as you finish reading this article!
This Ancient Chinese game came to the United States in the 1900s with an influx of Chinese immigrants. But we’re sure it’s going to be on a screen near you very soon too.
The many names of sic bo
Sic Bo goes by many different names and they vary depending on where you are in the world. Its most common name in the West, and the one we’re using now, is Sic Bo. This is a Chinese game and it means precious dice.
But that is far from the only name you’ll see it called. For example, if you’re in Macau or Hong Kong, you’ll likely hear it called by the name dai siu. However, for those in the Philippines, they usually call the game hi-low.
Other common names of sic bo include tai sai and big and small.
There are also variants of Sic Bo from England, with names including Chuck-a-Luck and Grand Hazard. Having said that, these aren’t the exact same as Sic Bo.
It all comes down to the roll of three dice
In Sic Bo, the dice is king. The game is all about the outcome of a dice roll. And as the player, all you need to do before that roll is to decide what to bet on.
Just like in roulette, the most common bets in Sic Bo are to bet on combinations of numbers. In order to do that, you’ll see different areas marked out on the table where the dealer can place your chips before the game commences.
Playing it safe in Sic Bo
If you are just starting out in the world of Sic Bo and aren’t sure yet how the betting works, it pays off to start conservatively. There are a number of bets you can make with a fairly high chance of coming through. It’s always nice to win a bet at a casino game, particularly when you’re a newbie.
So if you’re looking for a relatively safe bet, you can choose big or small, or else go odd or even. Both of these segments of bets have a probability that lies at approximately 48%, which sounds pretty good in our books.
