When it comes to international football there are a few names that stand out as genuine superpowers within the world game and of course, games between these types of nations can produce epic encounters. Germany and Spain are two of the teams that certainly fall into that bracket and tonight in Seville, the two sides will clash with a place in the semifinals of the Nations League on the line.
The relatively new tournament has seen Portugal crowned as its inaugural winners and this second competition has provided some very interesting games for the top teams but none will be as competitive as tonight’s clash. The Spanish need to beat the Germans to qualify, while a draw or better will be enough for Germany to take their place in the semifinals which will be contested next autumn.
If you would like to have a bet on the outcome of this massive clash between two of European football’s most successful teams, then you will need to find a site that offers extensive Nations League betting, including an active and thriving In Play betting service and on top of that a fine offer for new customers. For all of those things, a good place to start is with the current bet365 New Player Bonus which not only offers you up to £100 in bet credits when you start betting on site, but also offers you access to all the other bet365 sites too.

Bet365 Sport Open Account Offer
Up to ÂŁ100 in Bet Credits for new customers at bet365.
Min deposit ÂŁ5. Bet Credits available for use upon settlement of bets to value of qualifying deposit. Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply. Returns exclude Bet Credits stake. Time limits and T&Cs apply.
If you follow the action in the Nations League from elsewhere, such as in the United States for example, then you may need an alternative to bet365 if it is not available in your state. In Pennsylvania, the BetRivers Online Casino and Sportsbook site is a great choice, and you can sign up there using the latest BetRivers Promo Code offer outlined in the link.
The same site also offers a service in Indiana for those native to the Hoosier State although here you can access a slightly different starter offer. Use the BetRivers Affiliate Code “HOOSIERBONUS” when you sign up to claim a welcome offer only available to native Indianans.
Lastly, if you are resident in other states where you can enjoy sports betting but bet365 is not available, then a final option is the current DraftKings Online Sportsbook betting site which offers a good range of betting markets, as well as an appealing welcome bonus for new customers.
Let’s now preview the game tonight in Seville as two of the biggest and best teams in European international football are set to clash in a relatively rare matchup between the two.
Spain v Germany – Historical Record
The two teams have met a total of 24 times in their history. Germany lead the way with nine wins from those games, Spain having landed seven wins and eight of the games between the two have been draws, including the last encounter between the teams a couple of months back when Jose Gaya’s last gasp equaliser handed Spain a draw against the Germans.
The last ten games between the teams stretch back to June 1988 and have been shared equally with both teams amassing three wins over that period, with four games drawn. However, since Germany’s 2-0 win in Euro 1988, Spain have won both matches between the teams at the European Championship and World Cup (going on to win both on both occasions).
However, Spain have not beaten Germany at home since February 2003, with the only game on Spanish soil taking place since then ending in a 1-0 win for the Germans in November 2014.
Games between the teams are traditionally tight with only one game out of the 24 played seeing a difference of more than two goals between the teams, that being a 4-1 friendly win for Germany in August 2000.
Spain v Germany – Current Form
I don’t think it is unfair to say that both these teams come into this game not in the best of form. Spain have won just two of their last five, drawing two and losing one, while Germany have won three of their last five, but have drawn the remaining two. Germany’s wins have come two against the Ukraine, a team that defeated Spain on Matchday 4 of this competition, and the Czech Republic in a friendly. One stark fact for the Spanish is that in their last seven games, Spain have managed to score more than one goal on just one occasion, a 4-0 win over Ukraine back in September.
Germany’s record is a little better although they have drawn four of their last six games. They have however gone over a year unbeaten, their last defeat coming in September 2019 when they lost 4-2 at home to the Dutch.
The teams last met on the first Nations League matchday back in September when Timo Werner handed the Germans the lead early in the second half. Had they been able to hang on to the win, they would already be through to the semifinals, but Jose Gaya cropped up in the fifth minute of injury time to equalise for Spain, a result which proved crucial in the overall context of the group.
Spain v Germany – Team News
Spain are expected to stick with Unai Simon in goal, after the Bilbao keeper took his chance in place of Man Utd keeper David de Gea. Alvaro Morata and Gerard Moreno could be incontention to start in attack for Spain after the latter came off the bench to equalise late on against Switzerland last week, in game where Sergio Ramos set a new European record for international appearances, but also missed two penalties.
Germany will welcome back Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos from suspension, and he is expected to replace Robin Koch in midfield alongside Gundogan and Goretzka. Sane and Gnabry will likely start as the Germany wide players with Chelsea man Timo Werner operating in a more central role.
Possible Line Ups
Spain – 4-3-1-2- – Simon, Roberto, Ramos, Torres, Reguilon, Busquets, Merino, Ruiz, Oyarzabal, Morata, Moreno.
Germany – 4-3-3 – Neuer, Ginter, Sule, Rudiger, Max, Gundogan, Kroos, Goretzka, Sane, Gnabry, Werner.
Spain v Germany – Tips
We know that games between these two teams are generally very close affairs and I can’t see tonight’s game being any different. Neither side is at their best defensively but I do feel that the Germans do carry significantly more attacking threat than the Spain team at present, even if they do line up with two strikers.
I can see this game seeing goals at both ends due to the fact Spain need to win and Germany have so much pace going forward on the counter. My tip though here is for another draw, which is 5/2 shot and you could enhance that by adding both teams to score which is a 10/3 chance with bet365. You could also go for the 1-1 draw as a correct score bet, which is a 6/1 shot.
In terms of goalscorers, my choice would be to back Serge Gnabry to score anytime for Germany at 7/4, with Alvaro Morata a 5/4 chance to do likewise for Spain.
*All odds shown were correct with bet365 as of 9.15am on Tuesday 17th November 2020.
