For football fans, the light at the end of the tunnel is appearing as this weekend the Bundesliga will restart with nine matches from Saturday through to Monday. With 9 games of the season left to go for most of the teams, with just a couple facing 10 games, the Bundesliga is one of a number of leagues hoping to restart in June to complete their season as quickly as possible.
It is certainly at an intriguing point of the season with the top five teams embroiled in a battle for the title, as well as the four Champions League places, while a number of teams are also chasing the Europa League qualification spots. Relegation is also a big issue with a number of clubs also still embroiled in a battle to avoid the two outright relegation spots, as well as the relegation playoff spot.

Bundesliga I – Matchday 26 Preview and Tips
FC Augsburg v Vfl Wolfsburg

One thing is sure with Augsburg and that is there tends to be a fair few goals in their home games. We usually see three goals or more in their home matches (20 of their last 22 have seen three or more goals scored) and with Wolfsburg in free-scoring mood ahead of the shutdown, the visitors will fancy their chances of grabbing a few goals here. Augsburg do have a new boss in the shape of Heiko Herrlich but this is going to be a big ask against a Wolfsburg team that have been slowly improving over the last 12 months or so. Take Wolfsburg for the win here at 5/4.
Borussia Dortmund v Schalke 04
The Rhine derby is always one of the biggest fixtures in the Bundesliga and with Schalke a top six team too, this could well be a very tasty game. Schalke have a decent record recently in Dortmund, winning one and drawing one of the last two played against this opponents on the road. Dortmund will be smarting from both those results and will want a win here to keep up the pressure on Bayern Munich. This will be a real battle despite the lack of crowd but I do feel Dortmund, with the addition of Haaland in attack, will pick up the win this time. Back Dortmund to land a victory at 8/15.
Fortuna Dusseldorf v Paderborn
Two of the sides in the bottom three clash in Dusseldorf this weekend and the truth is that both teams badly need a win, and a defeat here could have serious repercussions for their hopes of avoiding the drop. Dusseldorf occupy the relegation playoff spot in 16th, while Paderborn are bottom of the table and six points from safety. Defeat here could make that gap even greater. Neither side scores too many goals and I think the fear of losing may influence the approach of both sides. Hence, I am going to back a draw here at 13/5.
Red Bull Leipzig v SC Freiburg
In truth, no team probably welcomed a hiatus from games more than Red Bull Leipzig who had seen their Bundesliga form drop off a cliff in the weeks leading up to the enforced break. They are back in action today against a decent Freiburg side who are in the top half of the table and who may be looking at a place in the Europa League next season. To get that, they may need a few big results to go their way but I can’t see that happening here as I am taking Leipzig to earn an important win here at 3/10.
TSG Hoffenheim v Hertha Berlin
These two sides are pretty well matched, separated by seven points in the league table but with very similar form heading into the break. Hoffenheim have enjoyed the more consistent season of the two and defensively they are the stronger of the two teams. Berlin have some very talented players, on loan Liverpool star Grujic being one to watch, but I still feel the home side will do enough to claim the victory. Back Hoffenheim to win at even money.
Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Moenchengladbach

Last season, these two teams would have been very well matched but this season, while Borussia have kicked on to push into the top four, Frankfurt have dropped off the pace, chiefly due to a number of their key players being sold during the pre-season transfer window. It has taken Eintracht a while to bounce back from that and they look like they are starting to just get to grips with things now. Even so, I still fancy Borussia to claim the win here. Take Borussia MG to win at 5/4.
FC Cologne v FSV Mainz
Cologne fans will be delighted with their teams mid table position after promotion back to the Bundesliga last season. Mainz have spent longer in the top flight, but have struggled this season and are just four points ahead of the relegation playoff place. Cologne have been strong at home, whiie Mainz do ship lots of goals and as such, this should be a home win. Back Cologne to land a solid win here at 19/20.
Union Berlin v Bayern Munich
Union Berlin may have a real aerial threat in attack, but Bayern Munich have so much quality all over that pitch that this game should really be a formality. Union have been thumped a couple of times by title contenders in the Bundesliga this season and while I can’t see them being humiliated at home, I still feel Bayern will be way too strong. Back Bayern for a straightforward win here at 1/5.
Werder Bremen v Bayer Leverkusen
The final game of the weekend takes place on Monday evening as second from bottom Bremen host a Leverkusen side chasing a Champions League place. The visitors are the team to back here given their stronger form and much better overall team. They are more consistent and do score plenty of goals. Bremen are a pale shadow of a team that once won the Bundesliga and I feel they are going to struggle here. Take Leverkusen to win at 7/10.
