Poker is so compelling, it’s no wonder there are so many great films about poker.
Okay, we might be biased as we are obviously huge poker fans here at Bonus Code UK. But just think about the drama poker naturally brings to the table. Bluffing, flirting with Lady Luck, playing against opponents with hidden talents.
If you’ve played any sort of poker before, whether that’s in a casino against friends at a DIY casino party or online (bet365 bonus code, if you’re looking for an online poker room), you’ve experienced all that drama yourself.
So it’s an obvious subject that translates beautifully to films about poker. There are so many options for nail-biting scenes and metaphors a-plenty.

Our favourite films about poker
Molly’s Game
Length: 2 hours 20 minutes
Released: 2017
Where to watch: Amazon Prime, Netflix, Google Play, Apple TV
IMDB score: 7.4/10
The highest rated film about poker on our list and also the longest, Molly’s Game is really fun to watch. It’s based on the real life story of Molly Bloom, who ended up running super high stakes private poker games. And, of course, making a mint while she did it.
Her clients were often famous, sometimes notorious, public figures. Huge actors, criminals, billionaires all came to her games. However, the law caught up with her when the FBI turned up on her doorstep and the life she built comes crashing down.
Rounders
Length: 2 hours 1 minute
Released: 1998
Where to watch: Apple TV
IMDB score: 7.3/10
Now this is probably our favourite film about poker on the list. Rounders is an out and out cult classic. Starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, before they became superstars, this film really captures a particular poker scene in the 1990s.
We follow the lead characters in their quest to pay off a huge debt by playing high stakes games. It’s a tale as old as time, but this is done really well. Nail biting, but funny at the same time, this is a great film to watch with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night.
The Cincinnati Kid
Length: 1 hour 42 minutes
Released: 1965
Where to watch: Apple TV
IMDB score: 7.2/10
The Cincinnati Kid transports us back to the 1930s and had a real Wild West vibe. Here we’ve got the classic tale of a young whipper snapper trying to make it in poker trying to outwit a respected older player.
Although not always politically correct, this film about poker starring Steve McQueen is well worth a watch. There are so many different moments where we’re on the edge of our seat, it’s hard not to like this film.
Kenny Rogers As The Gambler
Length: 1 hour 34 minutes
Released: 1980
Where to watch: Amazon
IMDB score: 6.4/10
It gets a fairly average score on IMBD, however, Kenny Rogers As The Gambler punches above its weight as far as we’re concerned.
Released off the back of the success of the poker ditty The Gambler, by Kenny Rogers of course, this film was a straight to TV affair. But this film is really good fun to watch. We join an older gentleman and a young up and comer on a dramatic train journey to Texas from Arizona. What’s the main lesson here? You should know when to fold’em.
