Chelsea Preview
Chelsea are the joint third most successful team in FA Cup history behind Arsenal (14 wins) and Manchester United (12 wins). The Londoners have amassed eight wins and six runners up in 15 finals appearances over the years.
All of those wins have been since 1970, and this year offers Chelsea an opportunity to banish the memory of last season’s FA Cup Final defeat to Arsenal.
The Londoners last won the competition in 2018, when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final at Wembley thanks to an Eden Hazard penalty.

Chelsea ProbableTeam (5-4-1) – Mendy, James, Chilwell, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Silva, Kante, Jorginho, Mount, Havertz, Werner
It seems likely that Thomas Tuchel will select a full-strength side in order to stand a chance of claiming the first of potentially two cups this season for this game. That means that Tammy Abraham will likely only find a place on the bench as will Christian Pulisic with Mount and Havertz likely to start as the more advanced midfielders in support of Timo Werner.
Kante and Jorginho will likely anchor the midfield with Thiago Silva coming into the team alongside Rudiger and Azpilicueta.
Leicester City Preview
The Foxes are the team that has appeared in most FA Cup Finals, without ever winningone. Leicester have played in four Finals, the last in 1969, and lost them all.
That’s not to say the Foxes have never tasted success at Wembley. They have won playoff matches on two occasions and have also won the League Cup on three occasions, the last in 2000.
Not only is this Leicester’s first final since 1969, the semifinal at Wembley was their first since 1982. The best they have managed in this competition since then was a number of quarterfinal appearances in a number of seasons.

Leicester City Probable Team – (5-3-2) – Schmeichel, Ricardo, Castagne, Soyuncu, Evans, Fofana, N’Didi, Tielemans, Maddison, Vardy, Iheanacho
With their first trophy since the Premier League a few years back on the line, there is no doubt in my mind that Brendan Rodgers will pick a full strength team for this game. That means that Jonny Evans will come back into the team, if fit and that James Maddison may do likewise in place of Ayoze Perez.
If Evans is not fit to play then Amartey will likely start in his place, but the former Manchester United star’s absence would be a big blow to Leicester City’s hopes.
After being in fine goalscoring form, I expect Iheanacho to earn a spot alongside Vardy in attack which means that there will likely be one less body in a deeper-lying midfield role to help out N’Didi and Tielemans.
Chelsea v Leicester City – Historical Record
- Matches Played – 118
- Chelsea Wins – 57
- Leicester Wins – 27
- Draws – 34
Chelsea’s last two wins against Leicester have both come in the FA Cup, the first a 2-1 win in 2018 and the second a 1-0 win in June last year.
Outside of those two wins for Chelsea, the other five games between the two teams in the Premier League have seen Leicester win two, with three matches drawn.
Chelsea have won just one of the last six matches between the two teams. However, Chelsea have never lost an FA Cup tie against Leicester. The teams have played 9 times in total in the competition, with Chelsea winning seven times and the other two games finishing in draws.
FA Cup Final – Our Top Tips
- Full Time Result – Chelsea – 10/11
- Correct Score – Chelsea to win 2-1 – 8/1
- Anytime Goalscorer – Mason Mount (Chelsea) – 12/5
This should certainly be an entertaining final between two teams who have been well matched in recent years as results between the two shows. However, there is no denying the fact that when it comes to the big cup games between the two in history, Chelsea have emerged as the winners and in truth, that is how I see this game going on Saturday.
So I am backing Chelsea to land the win in normal time and I think a scoreline of 2-1 is the most likely outcome as I think there is enough attacking talent on the pitch for both sides to grab a goal.
Speaking of which, I think Mason Mount of Chelsea is a good choice for anytime scorer given he is a scorer of key goals and is one of the more likely Chelsea stars to start the game.
All in all, it should be a great final, who is your pick to win?
