For this article, we are going to pay close attention to the two biggest games of the week, the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night between Everton and Liverpool, followed by the big game at Old Trafford on Thursday evening as Manchester United aim to get their season back on track with a crucial game against Arsenal.
Wednesday – Everton V Liverpool
Rafa Benitez is under pressure after a run of seven games without a win as Everton boss and he now faces a Liverpool side who have scored two or more goals in each of their last 17 games in all competitions. Everton come into this game unbeaten in their last three Merseyside derbies.

Abdoulaye Doucoure (4) | Top Assists | Trent Alexander Arnold (9) |
Everton News & Probable Team
I think Rafa Benitez will want to get Demarai Gray back in the team for this game as his pace and wide threat could cause Liverpool problems. I expect Gordon to drop to the bench but for the remainder of the team to pretty much stay the same from the game on Sunday at Brentford.
Everton (4-5-1) – Pickford (Gk), Coleman (Dr), Digne (Dl), Godfrey (Dc), Keane (Dc), Doucoure (Mc), Allan (Mc), Townsend (Mr), Gray (Ml), Iwobi (AMc), Rondon (Ac)
Liverpool News & Probable Team
After three wins in a row, ten goals scored and none conceded, I can’t see Jurgen Klopp making too many changes to his team. Matip may come in for Konate given his greater experience of this fixture, but other than that I think Klopp will pick the same team that despatched Southampton so comfortably on Saturday.
Liverpool (4-3-3) – Alisson (Gk), Alexander-Arnold (Dr), Robertson (Dl), Van Dijk (Dc), Matip (Dc), Henderson (Mc), Fabinho (Mc), Thiago (Mc), Mane (AMl), Salah (AMr), Jota (Ac)
Top Everton V Liverpool Tips
- Match Result – Liverpool to win – 4/11
- Correct Score – Everton 1-3 Liverpool – 11/1
- Anytime Goalscorer – Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 8/13
It’s hard to see anything other than a Liverpool win here. In derby games, form can go out of the window somewhat, but Everton are in the middle of a real slump while Liverpool have hit top form once again. They have looked a bit ropey defensively at times, but I can’t see Everton having the offensive weapons to cause them too much damage. I think Mo Salah inspires Liverpool to a comfortable win on the road here.
Thursday – Manchester United v Arsenal
Ralf Rangnick takes charge of his first game as the new Interim manager of Manchester United against an Arsenal side that have suffered just one defeat in their last ten Premier League games. It is going to be hugely interesting to see what team Rangnick picks for this game, especially with this game being so vital in both teams quest to finish in the top four this season.

Manchester United News And Probable Team
This is pretty much guesswork as to what team Rangnick will select for this game. He will have his own ideas of course, but having beaten Villarreal and then drawn with Chelsea in their last two games, both away from home, he may feel those players deserve another chance. I can’t see Ronaldo being kept on the bench here, so I expect Matic to drop out and the Portuguese star to start in the centre of a three-pronged attack.
Manchester United (4-3-3) – De Gea (Gk), Wan-Bissaka (Dr), Telles (Dl), Maguire (Dc), Lindelof (Dc), McTominay (Mc), Matic (Mc), Fernandes (AMc), Sancho (AMl), Rashford (AMr), Ronaldo (Ac)
Arsenal News And Probable Team
Mikel Arteta’s team have recovered from a very poor start to the season and now lie in 5th place, five points ahead of their opponents tonight. Their only defeat in the last ten was away at Liverpool and they are looking tough to beat. They also earned a win in this fixture last season. Arteta can change formation but after a solid win at the weekend, I can’t see him making too many changes to a winning team.
Arsenal – (4-4-1-1) – Ramsdale (Gk), Tomiyasu (Dr), Tavares (Dl), Gabriel (Dc), White (Dc), Thomas (Mc), Sambi Lokonga (Mc), Smith Rowe (Ml), Saka (Mr), Odegaard (AMc), Aubameyang (Ac)
Top Man Utd V Arsenal Tips
- Match Result – Arsenal to win – 11/4
- Correct Score – Manchester United 1-2 Arsenal – 12/1
- Anytime Goalscorer – Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) – 6/4
The reason I have gone for an Arsenal win here is not so much to do with form, I just feel that Ralf Rangnick will feel some pressure to start Cristiano Ronaldo here and I do believe that with him in the team, United are not anywhere near as potent as they adjust their style away from what they are best at, which is hitting teams on the counter with pace. As such, I feel Arsenal, who can play on the counter in this game, may have just enough quality to get the job done here.
