This Friday, three-times Europa League/UEFA Cup winners Inter Milan will face off against five-times winners of the same trophy, Spanish aces Sevilla, in what promises to be a very exciting Europa League Final at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany.
Both sides came through very different semifinals on Sunday and Monday night’s. First up, Sevilla produced a fine defensive and counter-attacking display to earn a 2-1 win over the much-fancied Manchester United to reach the final. This was followed on Monday night by Inter Milan’s 5-0 destruction of Shakhtar Donetsk in one of the most one-sided semifinal ties of recent times in any competition.
With both teams having an impressive legacy in European competition and the Europa League in particular, it promises to be an intriguing game when the two teams clash in Cologne, kicking off at 8pm on Friday evening UK time.

Let’s now take a look at how both Inter Milan and Sevilla reached the final, followed by a quick look at both teams competing and of course, our tips for the game that we are going to back in the hope of landing a winner!
The Road to Cologne
It has been a different route to the final for these teams. While Sevilla started the season in the Europa League, Inter Milan only dropped into the competition after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Barcelona and Dortmund.
Inter Milan
- Champions League Group Stages – 3rd in Group F (7 points from 6 games)* as a result of finishing 3rd in Group F, Inter drop into the Europa League at the Round of 32 stage.
- Round of 32 v Ludogorets – W 4-1 on aggregate (2-0, 2-1)
- Round of 16 v Getafe – W 1-0
- Quarterfinals – v Bayer Leverkusen – W 2-1
- Semifinal v Shakhtar Donetsk – W 5-0
Inter UEFA Cup/Europa League History
Winners (3 times) – 1991, 1994, 1998 – Runners Up (1) – 1997
Inter are one of four teams to have won the competition three times, the other teams on that list include Liverpool, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Romelu Lukaku has scored in each of his last ten Europa League ties, which is a new record. If he scores in the final, he will equal Ronaldo’s debut season for Inter when he scored 34 goals, as well as setting a new record consecutive goalscorer mark in the Europa League.
Inter Probable Team: (3-5-2) – Handanovic, Godin, De Vrij, Bastoni, D’Ambrosio, Young, Brozovic, Barella, Gagliardini, Lukaku, Martinez.
Sevilla
- Europa League Group Stages – 1st in Group A (15 points from 6 games)
- Round of 32 – v CFR Cluj D 1-1* won on away goals (1-1, 0-0)
- Round of 16 – v AS Roma – W 2-0
- Quarterfinals – v Wolves – W 1-0
- Semifinals – v Manchester United – W 2-1
Sevilla’s UEFA Cup/Europa League History
Winners (5 times) – 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016 – Runners Up (0)
Each time Sevilla have reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League in their history, they have gone on to win the competition. They are the most successful team in the competition’s history with five total wins.
Jesus Navas, who played for Sevilla in their first Europa League wins in 2006 and 2007, will earn his third win in the competition if he captains his team to victory on Friday. He was a player for Manchester City when Sevilla won their other three Europa League titles.
Sevilla Probable Team (4-3-3) – Bono, Navas, Reguilon, Carlos, Kounde, Jordan, Fernando, Banega, Suso, En-Nesyri, Ocampos*
*Ocampos is a doubt for the game with an injury, so if he is not fit, Munir may play in his place.
Inter Milan v Sevilla – Europa League Final Tips
This is going to be a tough game to call. Both teams have been rock solid in this competition since they played their one-legged Round of 16 tie and it is fair to say that each teams performances have improved over that time.
Sevilla were excellent against Manchester United but did ride their luck at times, especially early in the second half when United missed multiple excellent chances, before Luke De Jong’s counter-attacking winner. Inter though were dominant against Shakhtar as the Ukrainians ran out of steam in the face of Antonio Conte’s team goalscoring onslaught.
It is hard to see an attack of Lukaku and Martinez, backed up by the likes of Alexis Sanchez from the bench, being so wasteful in front of goal as United were and as such, I am backing Inter to land the win here and I have outlined the main tips I would back for this game across the main markets below.
Full Time Result – Inter Milan to win – 6/5
Result/Both Teams to Score – Inter to win and both teams to score – 7/2
Correct Score – Inter to win 2-1 – 11/1
Tune in to the action on Friday night to see who lands the crown of Europa League Champions 2020!
