Women’s Euro 2022 – Group Stage Roundup
Group A
Results
- England 1-0 Austria
- Norway 4-1 Northern Ireland
- Austria 2-0 Northern Ireland
- England 8-0 Norway
- Northern Ireland 0-5 England
- Austria 1-0 Norway
Final Table (Goal Difference In Brackets)
- England – 9 (14-0)
- Austria – 6 (3-1)
- Norway – 3 (4-10)
- Northern Ireland – 0 (1-11)
England started with something of a struggle against the disciplined Austria, but they should have won more comfortably than the 1-0 scoreline, however they found their scoring boots against Norway and Northern Ireland, scoring 13 goals without reply across those two games to break plenty of records as they move into the quarter finals.
Austria joined them in that phase after a 1-0 win over Norway in a game they only needed to draw to ensure they finished second and that is a very good result for an Austrian side who looked to be the third best team in this group at the start of the tournament.
Group B
Results
- Spain 4-1 Finland
- Germany 4-0 Denmark
- Denmark 1-0 Finland
- Germany 2-0 Spain
- Finland 0-3 Germany
- Denmark 0-1 Spain
Final Table (Goal Difference In Brackets)
- Germany – 9 (9-0)
- Spain – 6 (5-3)
- Denmark – 3 (1-5)
- Finland – 0 (1-8)
Germany defied early tournament odds to move serenely into the quarterfinals, winning all three of their games comfortably and without conceding a goal. It was an ominous display by the most successful team in this competition’s history and one that saw their odds slashed to win the tournament.
Spain joined them in the quarterfinals as the pre-tournament co-favourites defeated Denmark in a closely fought final game to earn the result which ensured that they progressed at the expense of the Danes.
Group C
Results
- Portugal 2-2 Switzerland
- Netherlands 1-1 Sweden
- Sweden 2-1 Switzerland
- Netherlands 3-2 Portugal
- Switzerland 1-4 Netherlands
- Sweden 5-0 Portugal
Final Table (Goal Difference In Brackets)
- Sweden – 7 (8-2)
- Netherlands – 7 (8-4)
- Switzerland – 1 (4-8)
- Portugal – 1 (4-10)
As expected Sweden and the Netherlands made it through this group, with the Swedes coming out on top on goal difference after both teams drew one game and won their others. That may prove to be key as it means the Dutch missed out on an easier path to the final and now face the winners of Group D.
It was a strange group in many ways with Portugal and Switzerland both showing some good initiative in their first two games, but both also fell away in their last game as the quality that the Swedes and Dutch possess finally showed through and made sure of their place in the last eight.
Group D
Results
- Belgium 1-1 Iceland
- France 5-1 Italy
- Italy 1-1 Iceland
- France 2-1 Belgium
- Iceland 1-1 France
- Italy 0-1 Belgium
Final Table (Goal Difference In Brackets)
- France – 7 (8-3)
- Belgium – 4 (3-3)
- Iceland – 3 (3-3)
- Italy – 1 (2-7)
As expected, France made light work of qualifying as Group D winners, setting up a very intriguing quarterfinal with the Netherlands, and the real action in this group would be in the race for second spot.
In the end, it was Belgium, by virtue of their 1-0 win over Italy, that eventually snagged second spot ahead of an Iceland team that drew all three of their games and went home undefeated.

Record Breaking Tournament Performances
- The record attendance for a women’s European Championship game was smashed in the first game of the tournament when 68,871 were in attendance as England beat Austria 1-0 at Old Trafford. That comfortably beat the previous record of 41,301 set in the Euro 2013 final in Stockholm between Germany and Norway. The record may not last long however as the Final at Wembley at the end of July is already a sell-out.
- England’s Group Stage performance (P3, W3, Scored 14, Conceded 0) is the best of any team at a European Championships finals in the history of either the men’s or women’s tournaments.
- England also became the first team to score more than six goals in a European Championship Finals game, male or female, when they beat Norway 8-0.
- The six goals England scored in the first half of that game is also the most any team has scored in a single half in the history of either the male or female tournaments.

Women’s Euro 2022 Quarter Finals Preview, Odds & Tips
The four quarter finals as decided by finishing positions in the group are previewed below. All four games will kick off at 8pm UK Time.
Wednesday 20th July
- England v Spain (Falmer Stadium)
England to win – 10/11 – Tip
Spain to win – 11/4
Draw – 5/2
The bookmakers are a little cautious on England here, mainly due Spain having a decent record against England of late I believe. However, in terms of their performances in this tournament I have no doubt in picking England to land the win.
Thursday 21st July
- Germany v Austria (Brentford Community Stadium)
Germany to win – 2/7
Austria to win – 17/2
Draw – 9/2
Austria have done better than expected in reaching the quarterfinal stages of the tournament and the fact that they are facing their neighbours will give this game added spice, but its Germany and it is a major competition. Germany always play well and they’ll win this one comfortably too I’m sure.
Friday 22nd July
- Sweden v Belgium (Leigh Sports Village)
Sweden to win – 3/10
Belgium to win – 9/1
Draw – 15/4
Like Austria, Belgium have exceeded expectations in reaching the quarterfinals but I can’t see them going any further against this talented and strong Swedish team. The Swedes found their rhythm against Portugal last time out and I fear that Belgium could be in for a bit of a walloping here.
Saturday 23rd July
- France v Netherlands (New York Stadium)
France to win – 7/10
Netherlands to win – 15/4
Draw – 13/5
For me, this is the toughest match to call. France are so dangerous going forward, it makes up for their poor defence, but then again you can say the same about the Dutch, although I feel the Dutch defence is a better unit than France. This game should be a cracker with plenty of chances but I feel France will do just enough to earn the win.

Bet365 Sport Latest Outright Winner Betting Odds & Tips
- 11/4 joint favourites – England & Germany
- 7/2 – France
- 5/1 – Sweden
- 7/1 – Spain
- 12/1 – Netherlands
- 80/1 – Austria
- 100/1 – Belgium
A look at these odds confirms that the bookies, like me, now think England and Germany are the two most likely finalists and given how they have played, I’d be confident picking the Lionesses to land the win on home soil.
