From Thursday through to next Tuesday, the final two match days in the qualifying campaign for the expanded Euro 2020 competition will take place. The tournament, a special event to mark 60 years since the first ever European Championships, will feature an expanded line up of teams and matches will take place across a host of venues around Europe next summer, with the semifinals and finals set to be played at Wembley Stadium.
The main qualifying competition for the tournament draws to a close over the next two games with teams playing their final games in the qualifying stage. After this, we will know the list of teams that have earned their place in the finals next year, with the final few places set to be decided in the Nations League Playoffs, which will take place early next year.
There’s plenty of British interest in these games too, with the likes of England, Wales and Northern Ireland all looking to try and earn a spot in the finals, as are the Republic of Ireland, while Scotland will have to rely on the Nations League playoffs to see if they can earn a spot.

Euro 2020 Qualifiers – Situations in Each Group
In each of the ten groups, the top two teams in each group will qualify for the finals. Some teams have already confirmed their qualification. The situation in each group is outlined below.
Group A

England need one point from their final two games to qualify. Four points would confirm them as group winners. England face Montenegro on Thursday and then Kosovo away on Sunday.
Second place will be between the Czech Republic and Kosovo who face each other on Thursday. A win for the Czech’s being enough for them to qualify. If Kosovo win or the game is a draw, it will go down to the final set of games.
Tips to qualify – England & Czech Republic
Group B
Ukraine have qualified as the winners of Group B. Second place in the group will be between either Portugal or Serbia. Portugal will qualify if they win both their remaining games at home to Lithuania and away to Luxembourg. Serbia must hope Portugal drop points in one game and that they beat Luxembourg and group winners, Ukraine.

Group C
Northern Ireland can still qualify from Group C but need to beat the Netherlands and Germany to confirm they will qualify in their final two games. IN truth, it looks more likely that the two European big guns will claim top spot in the group as both face Northern Ireland, and one of Group C’s lesser lights.
Tips to Qualify – Netherlands and Germany
Group D
Despite being top at the moment, the Republic of Ireland could miss out on qualification for Euro 2020 given the precarious nature of Group D. The Danes lie second but have a game in hand on the Irish (against Gibraltar) that they will surely win and the third place Swiss lie one point behind the Danes but also face Gibraltar in their second game, as well as Georgia at home in their first, meaning the Swiss should pick up six points and that would be enough for them to qualify.
Ireland face Denmark in the final game of the group for both teams and it seems likely the winner of that game will qualify.
Tips to Qualify – Denmark and Switzerland
Group E

Group E is perhaps the most complicated with four teams still in with a chance of qualifying. Croatia are top with 14 points, two ahead of Hungary on 12, but they have played one more game than Slovakia (10 pts) and Wales (8). It is possible we could see a three-way tie on 14 points in this group with the top two decided on head to head records.
There’s lots of huge matches this week including Croatia v Slovakia, Azerbaijan v Wales, Wales v Hungary and Slovakia v Azerbaijan and the possible permutations in the group are large.

Group F
Spain are all but assured of their place in the finals next summer with just one point needed to be absolutely sure. The key games in the group see third and second place clash when Romania take on Sweden on Friday night, as well as the games involving Norway.
Things are a little complicated in this group, but I still fancy Sweden to make enough points to claim second spot behind the Spanish.

Group G
Poland are already confirmed as one of the qualifiers from this group as they have an eight-point lead over the third placed team. Austria also have a four-point gap and in truth, I can’t see North Macedonia, Slovenia or Israel being able to close that gap on the Austrians. I expect Austria to confirm their spot with a win over North Macedonia on Saturday.

Group H
France and Turkey are very much in pole position to claim the qualifying spots in Group H as they have a four point lead over Iceland in third. Turkey face Iceland in their game on Thursday and if Turkey win, then that would put both themselves and France into the finals next summer, whereas a draw and a France victory would also confirm both sides as qualified.

Group I

It’s already a closed shop in Group I with Belgium and Russia confirmed as the qualifiers and the game between the two this week will only decide which one qualifies top of the group and which team qualifies in second spot.

Group J
Italy have already wrapped up top spot in the group with maximum points from eight games and a win for Finland in either of their final two games at home to Liechtenstein or away to Greece, will ensure the Finns qualify for their first major tournament.

The final four places will be decided by the Euro 2020 Qualifying playoffs which will take place in March 2020, with the final four places in the tournament decided across these two matchdays.
