It is the time of year when many people’s thoughts in the horse racing world start to turn to the big meeting at Cheltenham Festival in March. Many of the key runners in that meeting will have had their warmup runs by now and will be away, resting and training ahead of one of the biggest and best horse racing meets of the season.
But that doesn’t mean that the horse racing industry is on a hiatus. Quite the opposite in fact, there are a number of big meetings on the horizon between now and then and there is one coming up this coming weekend at Warwick in the UK.

Let’s now take a look at some of the big races set to take place this weekend being shown live and the good news for punters is that ITV Racing is not just showing four races from Warwick live, but also three from Market Rasen too, offering you even more opportunities to access the offer.
Warwick’s Classic Chase Day Saturday Meeting – Four Races
1.50pm – Novices’ Chase
This race is for 5yo+ and will see nine runners compete for the top prize of £13,668 over three miles. There are a number of very interesting options here including Paul Nicholls Next Destination, Kim Bailey’s Happygolucky and Nicky Hendersons Dickie Diver.
Colin Tizzard will have Fiddlerontheroof competing, while Harry Fry’s If The Cap Fits is another option. All horses competing in the race have tasted victory at least once in their career’s so far, so this promises to be an exciting and close race with a number of quality options to back.
2.25pm – Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle
Run over 2 miles and five furlongs, this Grade 2 Novice’s Hurdle will have 15 runners with a prize of £12,814 up for grabs for the winner.
There are a number of quality options available in the races including Adrimel, trained by Richard Johnson who has won four out of the five races he’s contested , Nicky Henderson’s Captain Morgs, plus Jay Be Why, Make Me A Believer, Mint Condition and another Colin Tizzard entry in Oscar Elite.
This is a high quality field featuring a number of runners that have landed multiple winners across this season and last and as such, it should produce a very interesting betting market for punters to explore on Saturday.
3.00pm – Classic Handicap Chase
The Grade 3 Mccoy Contractors Civil Engineering Classic Handicap Chase is the big race of the day with ÂŁ28,475 on offer for the winner. Raced over 3 miles and five furlongs and 54 yards, it is also a real test of stamina for the 22 runners confirmed for the race.
The field of runners is very evenly matched, and you can make a case for almost any of the 22 runners being in with a chance, although how the ground is come the weekend will certainly affect those odds. Horse to keep a close eye on here include Storm Control, which has won its last two races, Notachance, which despite its name has won its only other race this season, Nearly Perfect, which has indeed had a good season winning both its races so far.
Others to consider here include Le Breuil, Éclair Du Guye, Didero Valis, Django Django and the fantastically named Danny Whizzbang.
3.35pm – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle
The final race to be shown live on ITV Racing on Saturday is the Handicap Hurdle and will feature a big field of 27 runners racing over 3 miles and a furlong. There’s a little over £10,000 up for grabs for the winner in another race that looks extremely open.
Gelboe De Chanay is an interesting one here as at 5 years old, they are the youngest runner in the race by a couple of years. At the other end of the scale, Donna’s Diamond and Rock on Fruity will both compete aged 12.
Others reckoned to be in with a shout include Champagne Platinum, another Nicky Henderson trained runner, Come on Teddy, Espion Flemcara, Imperial Alcazar, Mint Condition, Mohaayed and Kepagge.
Market Rasen Saturday Meeting Three Races
Alongside the four main races listed above, there are three races from Market Rasen that will form part of ITV Racing’s coverage at the weekend and these three races are listed below. The offer is available on these three races, plus the four from Warwick outlined above.
- 2.05pm – Racing TV Handicap Hurdle
- 2.40pm – Racing TV Hurdle
