There’s another slot in the Superbet series of games to look at and this one is the Double Play Superbet slot from NextGen Gaming. This is the next in a series of games from the provider that offers players a choice of different bonus features that can be activated prior to a spin, at the cost of an increase in the size of the bet played on that spin.
The setting for the slot is a rather futuristic, space-styled backdrop which has wisps of light and twinkling stars forming part of what is seen on screen. It is very nicely done and somewhat pretty to watch, especially if you are not too focused on what is happening on the reels.Ā The music too adds a futuristic bent to the slot and is unobtrusive and acts as a nice backing accompaniment as you spin the reels.
We’ll explore more about the pre-spin features you can access in the Key Features section below, but what you need to know is that this is a 5-reel slot with three symbols on each reel. Your balance is displayed in the top right corner of the slot, with the total bet you are making in the top left (you need to keep a close eye on this when you activate the features). The main controls for the slot including the spin button are at the foot of the reels.
There are a total of ten different standard symbols on the reel. Six of which, the cherry, the plum, the lemon, the strawberry, the horseshoe and the spade symbol, are all the lower value symbols on the reel offering between 5 coins to 100 coins for a win of three or more symbols.
There are then two mid-value symbols that offer pays of between 15 and 150 coins and these are the bell and the silver star symbols.
The two higher value symbols are the Lucky 7 and the diamond symbol. These offer pays from just two symbols on the reel (although the pays are very small in value) up to 250 coins for the Lucky 7 and 500 coins for the diamond, if you can land five across a single line.
If you play the slot without any of the features enabled then you start off with Enhanced Wilds on just the middle reel (with a 3x multiplier attached to them) and that can still produce some sizeable wins for your stakes which can range from £0.25 up to £25.00 per spin as standard. However the size of those bets can increase markedly as you access the different aspects of the Double play and Superbet features as we will explore below.
Double Play Superbet Slot Key Features
The first feature you can increase pre-spin is the Double play feature which offers you the chance to increase the multiplier on your Wilds from the standard x3 to either x6 or x9. Increasing the value of your multiplier sees you having to pay another bet unit, so if your standard bet for the x3 multiplier is £0.25, then for the x6 multiplier it is £0.50 and for the x9 it is £0.75.
In addition to this, you can then elect to use the Superbet feature too and this increases the number of reels that have the Enhanced Wilds (the Wilds with multipliers on them) from the standard bet of one (the middle reel), up to the middle three reels and then across all five reels. However, if you select one of the other options, then the size of your bet doubles each time.
So let’s say you start out with a unit bet of Ā£0.25 and play the Doubleplay feature at x9 which increases your bet to Ā£0.75. If you then increase the Superbet feature to the middle three reels, that increases your bet to Ā£1.50 and then if you go across all five reels, that increases your bet still further to Ā£3.00 per spin.
That is 12x more than your standard stake, but your winnings are paid out at the standard stake rate, which means you need to hit a fair few of the 9x multipliers on bigger winning lines when activating these bonuses in order to land a win.
If you don’t maximise out your Superbet option, then the remaining reels without Enhanced Wilds contain standard Wild symbols which have no multiplier. But you can land up to five of these on a pay line to give you wins of up to 500 coins.
The other feature of the slot is the Scatter symbol, which is the Double play Superbet logo. This offers a pay out when you land two or more on the reels of up to 2,500 coins, and when you land three or more of these symbols, you trigger 15 free spins.
The good news is that during your free spins, all your Enhanced Wilds amounts are doubled, so if you trigger this with the 9x multiplier active on your Enhanced Wilds, then that increases to an 18x multiplier and so on. You can also re-trigger the bonus game from within your free spins and in truth, it is one of the easier games to earn a re-trigger bonus on.
The question you have to ask yourself is whether the Doubleplay and Superbet options are worth activating on your spins, compared to the additional cost you incur for each spin and unfortunately for me, I don’t think that they are.
How to win at the Double Play Superbet slot
In my opinion, I believe that the Double Play Superbet slot is a game that offers players the illusion of some much larger wins, but the price you have to pay in terms of additional cost per spin means taking that risk just isn’t financially worthwhile. Most slots tend to play best when you activate all possible bonuses and maximum lines but in this case, I don’t feel that is the case.
My advice when playing this slot is to increase the size of the Double play multiplier from x3 up to the maximum x9 but to just play this on the middle reel. That does triple the size of your bet (which at the lowest coin value is a £0.75 bet instead of £0.25) but this does still give you a reasonable chance of a profit if you hit a win.
Of course, with these Wilds only on the middle reel, you won’t hit a win as often, but if you use the Superbet function, you won’t win the 12x more often you need to land a profit by paying Ā£3.00 per game with all the features set to maximum.
The key to bigger wins isn’t so much the Superbet or Double play feature but the Free Spins bonus as some sizeable wins can be landed here, especially if you can re-trigger the bonus and one big positive on this slot is that the bonus is much easier to re-trigger than on some other games.
