Unlike the Europa League, the four quarterfinals in this tournament will be played across four separate evenings, from Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th August, played at two venues in Lisbon, Portugal.
Benfica’s Stadio de Luz will host the first and third games in the sequence with Sporting Lisbon’s Jose Alvelade stadium being the venue for the second and fourth games. The same two venues will then host the semifinals, with the final being played at the Stadio de Luz. All games are one off matches played at neutral venues with extra time and penalties used to decide the winner on the night if required.

Champions League Quarterfinal ties
Wed – Atalanta v Paris St Germain
- Match Results Odds – Atalanta 5/2, Paris St Ger Evens, Draw 14/5
Atalanta have performed miracles to reach this stage. After three games, they had zero points and were bottom of their group, but a miracle fight back and then an 8-4 win over Valencia on aggregate in the Round of 16 has seen this young and freescoring side make it into the quarterfinals in their first ever Champions League campaign.
However, they face a Paris St Germain side that, despite being minus Kylian Mbappe, still have immense quality in all areas of the pitch and who, with a favourable draw in the competition, should be confident of going all the way to the final.
Paris St Germain don’t have many good memories of Champions League quarterfinal ties of late, but I think this may be one example where they get the result they need to progress into the semifinals.
Prediction – Atalanta have done amazingly well to get this far and while they’ll give PSG a game, I expect the French side to come through. Take PSG to win 3-1 at 12/1.
Thu – Atletico Madrid v Red Bull Leipzig
- Match Result Odds – A.Madrid 11/8, R.B.Leipzig 2/1, Draw 11/5
These two teams overcame last year’s finalists Liverpool and Tottenham in the last round of the competition and of the two, it is Atletico Madrid who are blessed with both the better form of late and also the more experience of the latter stages of this tournament.
Diego Simeone’s side have not been at their best this season in what has been something of a transitional year for the team, but they have retained the ability to eke out crucial results when it matters and Red Bull Leipzig will be well aware of that.
For me the crucial issue here is the fact that Leipzig’s most dangerous attacker, Timo Werner will miss out due to his move to Chelsea and that severely weakens the German side’s attack and as such, I think Atletico Madrid will snatch a single goal victory in this game.
Prediction – Leipzig have done well to reach this far in the tournament but without Timo Werner, I think this is as far as they go. Back Atletico Madrid to win 1-0 at 6/1.
Fri – Barcelona v Bayern Munich
- Match Result Odds – Barcelona 12/5, Bayern Munich 19/20, Draw 3/1

A game that would have graced the final, but which comes at the quarterfinal stage thanks to the vagaries of the draw. Of the two teams, Bayern Munich are the clear favourites after a stellar second half of the season where they have won 23 and drawn one of their last 24 games in all competitions.
Barcelona’s form cannot match that and in truth, after missing out in La Liga, this represents Barca’s best chance of a trophy this season. However, they are going to have to go some to beat the team who have been sweeping all before them in the. Bundesliga, as well as Chelsea in the last round of this competition.
However, Barcelona have Lionel Messi, who has tormented Bayern Munich defender in the past so nothing is impossible with the genius Argentinean in your team and I think Barcelona could well push Bayern hard and maybe into extra time in this one and it is a game I also feel will see a fair few goals too.
Prediction – The smart money is on Bayern but I think Barca will take them to extra time. Back the draw here and 2-2 is an enticing 11/1.
Sat – Manchester City v Lyon
- Match Result Odds – Man City 1/4, Lyon 9/1, Draw 11/2
Manchester City are still the favourites to win this trophy with most bookmakers and the feeling is that they have a relatively easy draw in Lyon. However it is worth noting that Lyon did beat City in the Champions League at the Etihad a couple of years back, and then drew with them at home, plus the French side have already eliminated Juventus this season too.
City came through well against Real Madrid, notching 2-1 wins in both legs of their tie and if they hit top form here, then they should pick up the win. Lyon though have proven to be a stubborn test for any team they face and I don’t feel City will have things all their own way, especially early on in the game.
However, I think in the second half, City’s class and squad depth will prove to be decisive and it is here that I think they will take control of the game and land the victory and with it a place in the semifinals.
Prediction – Manchester City should take the win and I feel a 2-0 scoreline (6/1) is a good bet.
