Last weekend was another big one in the Premier League as a gap has started to open up between the top two teams and those in third and fourth. Defeats for Chelsea (at Everton) and Manchester City (at home to Manchester United) combined with convincing wins for the top two, Liverpool and Leicester City, mean that the Foxes now lie comfortably clear in second, six points ahead of Man City in third but eight points behind Liverpool who remain top of the table.
Wins for Manchester United and Tottenham saw them move to fifth and seventh in the table with Wolves, who earned a 2-2 draw at Brighton, their 12th Premier League game in a row without defeat, sandwiched in between them. Sheffield United, Crystal palace and improving Newcastle United complete the top half of the table.
This coming weekend sees a full complement of games, with matches from Saturday through to Monday including a number of top Vs bottom clashes.

Premier League Fixtures
Liverpool v Watford (12.30pm)

Top takes on bottom in a game of contrasts in the Premier League’s early kick off. Liverpool have dropped just two points all season long, while Watford have won just the once and are 37 points worse off than the Reds after 16 games. Liverpool are unbeaten in two and half years at Anfield in the league and Watford’s record at Anfield of late is poor, with a number of heavy defeats to their name. I can’t see anything else but another difficult afternoon for the Hornets here and Liverpool should rack up win number 16 of the season ahead of their trio to Dubai next week for the World Club Cup. Tip – Liverpool to win – 2/11.
Burnley v Newcastle United
Both these teams have had somewhat contrasting form of late, Burnley are without a win in their last three games, dropping down the table to 13th, while two wins and a draw against Man City in their last three games has seen Newcastle jump up to 10th in the table. Sean Dyche will be worried at the number of goals his team are shipping at present but against a shot-shy Newcastle that may not be such a worry. This will be a close one and I fancy the two teams to share the spoils. Tip – Draw – 12/5.
Chelsea v Bournemouth
Chelsea have now lost three of their last four in the Premier League and that has seen them drop to 4th in the table, losing ground on Leicester and Liverpool in particular. However, against a Bournemouth side who have been ravaged by injuries and who have got the worst form of any team in the division over the last five games, losing them all, I fancy the home side to claim a strong win. Tip – Chelsea to win – 1/4.
Leicester v Norwich City
Second placed meets second from bottom in the Premier League, in a mirror image of the Liverpool v Watford clash almost. Norwich’s better run of form was ended by two defeats in a row in their last couple of games and I can’t see them faring any better against Leicester City in this one. The Foxes smashed four past Aston Villa last weekend in a clinical display and I would not be surprised to see them repeat that feat here today. Tip – Leicester to win – 1/5.
Sheffield United v Aston Villa
Sheffield United bounced back well from defeat at home to Newcastle to beat Norwich on the road last week, a win which keeps them in 8th position in the table ahead of this game against a Villa side that are only out of the relegation zone by goal difference. I can’t see too many goals being scored in this game but those that do go into the net are more likely to be for the home side I feel. Tip – Sheffield United to win – 17/20
Southampton v West Ham (5.30pm)
Everton’s win over Chelsea last weekend dropped the Saints back into the relegation zone, but they have a real chance to bounce back against a West Ham side who have won just one of their last six games in the Premier League. The Saints have won their last two home games against Norwich and Watford and I think they are well set to pick up another three points here against a West Ham side badly out of sorts. Tip – Southampton to win – 17/20.
Manchester United v Everton (Sun, 2pm)

After their excellent win over Manchester City last weekend, Manchester United now welcome Everton hoping to string together back to back Premier League wins. The Toffees ended a poor run of form with a fine 3-1 win over Chelsea last weekend, with caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson seemingly getting far more from the team than previous manager Marco Silva had. However, Everton’s record at Old Trafford is very poor, with just one win in Premier League history there and as such, I reckon this will be a comfortable home win for United. Tip – Man Utd to win – 7/10.
Wolves v Tottenham (Sun, 2pm)
Sixth faces seventh in the table on Sunday afternoon as Wolves host Spurs in a game which last season, saw the away team land the victory in both matches. Tottenham have been in good form in general since Jose Mourinho took over, earning a decent win in four of his five games in charge and scoring plenty of goals. Wolves though are unbeaten in 12 Premier League games and I can’t quite see them giving that record up here. Tip – Draw – 5/2
Arsenal v Manchester City (Sun, 4.30)
After a disappointing run of results for both these teams, both managers will feel that this game is a must win match fro various reasons. Arsenal badly need a win at home to give their fans something to cheer for whereas Manchester City have dropped off the pace behind Liverpool and Leicester of late to a surprising extent. Even saying that, I still feel City will get the job done here. Tip – Manchester City to win – 9/20.
Crystal Palace v Brighton (Mon, 7.45pm)
One of the most unusual but fierce rivalries in the Premier League sees Palace and Brighton meet again on Monday night. Both teams sit in mid table, Palace 9th and Brighton 12th, although both will feel that with a little more luck, they could have been even higher in the table. Palace have the slightly better current form of the two and home advantage here which I think is key but I can’t quite see them doing enough for the win as I feel the points will be split. Tip – Draw – 11/5.
