Welcome to the strange and surreal world of Elements The Awakening, a visually stunning new slot available on mobile from NetEnt. High production values are a given for slots from this developer nowadays and Elements The Awakening doesn’t disappoint on that score. The game is based on the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water and their ‘awakening’ from simply being an element into a living breathing being, although what that being is is definitely a little strange.
Set against the backdrop of a primeval landscape with volcanoes, snowy capped mountains, and deep glacial mountain lakes, the slot has a somewhat mixed, futuristic/prehistoric theme and I’m not quite sure which camp it predominantly falls into. There are the usual 5×3 reels in play and there are a total of 20 paylines in play on every spin. Betting starts at just 0.20 per spin, but you can increase that up to Ā£100 per spin by increasing the coin value and the Level Meter to the maximum 10 coins per payline bet.
The slot also features what it calls the “Avalanche” reel system and what this is, is simply another name for “Rolling reels” or “Cascading reels” in that the symbols drop down from the top of the screen, any winning paylines will flash and disappear and then the symbols above them will drop down and new symbols will fill the spaces on the reels, thus creating the possibility for additional payline wins on a single spin.
Key Features
The first thing you will note about The Elements Awakening slot is that it doesn’t have clearly defined reels, the symbols effectively float in thin air in front of the backdrop, which is a rather nice effect. I also love the fact that the Elements that have awakened have their own little animations that click into play when you don’t spin the reels for a short period of time and this does bring a smile to your face when you first see it.
There are eight standard symbols on the reels. There are the four elements in their natural form, Earth, Air, Fire and Water and these are the lower value symbols on the slot offering wins of up to 100 coins on a payline. They are accompanied by the Awakened Element which is the element but depicted in a vaguely (and I mean vaguely!) living form and as you would expect, these elemental being are the higher value standard symbols on the slot awarding wins up to 1,500 coins on a payline.
To help you land more wins there is an in game Wild symbol which appears on the second, third, fourth and fifth reels in the game and this can substitute for all symbols to create a winning payline. This symbol is called the “All Wild” symbol in the game to differentiate between the other Wilds used when you trigger the bonus features of the slot.
The Bonus Feature on the slot is called the Free Fall feature and this is triggered when you land four Avalanche trigger wins in a row. You can keep track of how many Avalanches there have been using the Avalanche meter, which is located either side of the Spin button.
There are four different Free Fall games you can trigger and which one you access depends on which of the four element symbols was the largest on the Element Meter (which is in the Spin button) when you triggered the four Avalanche wins in a row. Each of the features is named after the different Wild bonuses that are available on each.
- Fire Storm Wild – During this bonus, you have Fire Storm Wild symbols on the middle three reels and they can expand to take over spaces on the first and fifth reel too. These symbols can move in any direction, changing up to two of the symbols next to them into Wilds to offer you a bigger chance of some higher value wins.
- Air Storm Wild – During this bonus feature, two Air Storm Wild symbols will drop down onto the columns and will remain in place on the reels for the entirety of the Air Storm Wild bonus round. After each spin, the Wilds will move into an adjacent position on the reels at random for each new spin.
- Earth Storm Wild – These symbols are only evident in the middle three reels in this round and when you land one, the symbol will remain in position on the reels until you have triggered a winline with them, they have been involved in three separate Avalanches or until you complete the bonus round.
- Water Storm Wild – The final bonus feature sees Water Storm Wild symbols appearing on the middle three reels. This is an Expanding Wild and when one is landed it will expand to cover the entire column, turning all symbols in that column wild. Obviously landing multiple of these symbols on a spin can produce the biggest value wins in this bonus feature.
Other than these bonuses, the only other thing to note is that the game is relatively straightforward to understand and very relaxing to play and is certainly well worth a closer look.
How to win at the Elements The Awakening slot
One of the most pleasing aspects of the Elements The Awakening slot is that you don’t have to trigger the bonus games in order to give yourself a chance at a big win. The base game, through the Avalanche Feature and notably through the use of the All Wild symbol, can produce some very sizeable wins in its own right and these can certainly help keep your balance topped up regularly as you play through the game.
However, while big base game wins are possible, they are certainly more likely to occur in the four Free Fall bonus features. There’s little you can do to influence which of the four games you play, as it depends on what the predominant element symbol was which triggered the bonus, but of the four I feel that the Fire Storm Wild is the better of the four offering Ā more frequent bigger returns than the others, however it is fair to say that you can hit big wins on all the bonus games, it just depends on your luck and how the Wilds fall. In all cases, the more Wilds you can hit on those middle reels, the greater your chances of a big win.
