We are pretty used to bet365 Sport being innovators when it comes to online betting. The company has been at the forefront of sports betting, casino gaming, poker and bingo in the UK for many years and now it has taken its first tentative steps into a new genre.
That of Fantasy Sports.
Released recently, bet365 Fantasy Sports offers its customers a new way to bet money in the hope of earning a return, by testing their fantasy sports prowess across Fantasy Football, Fantasy Tennis and Fantasy Golf games.
With a selection of different game formats to play, there are already plenty of options for customers to try out and of course, entry fees for the tournaments range from just a few pence, up to more expensive tournaments to play for higher rollers, or more experienced (and confident) fantasy football experts.
However, if you are a punter that has spent the majority of their time on the site enjoying the sports betting options and have never played Fantasy Football of any kind, what can you expect and what is different about bet365’s Fantasy Sports offering compared to the free-to-play fantasy games you can enjoy on Premier League soccer, or the NFL?
In this article, we’ll explain a little more about how Fantasy Sports works at bet365 Sport and why it is different to free-to-play games and why, for punters at least, that is a good thing!

The Difference Between Fantasy Sports At Bet365 And Free To Play Games
If you are not used to playing competitive fantasy sports games, by that we mean one that entrants will pay a fee to enter, then you may wonder why you would bother playing bet365’s Fantasy Sports games when you can play any number of free to play Fantasy Sports games on the Premier League or the NFL for example.
However, there is one big difference between the two types of fantasy sports games and that is, on the Free To Play games, your chances of winning something, either a prize, or perhaps a cash prize, is very, very small.
With bet365 Fantasy Sports, your chances of landing a prize is much higher as the prize pool that is collected from all the entry fees paid by the players, is then subdivided out amongst a high proportion of users (usually around 15-20% of players in a tournament will receive a payout).
So, what this means is that bet365 Fantasy Sports are not just equally as much fun to play as the free-to-play games, but they also offer you a chance of generating a return, just as you would as if you had played a spin on the slots, placed a sports bet or tried your hand at a game of online poker.

Do I Play Fantasy Football The Same Way As Fantasy Tennis Or Golf?
In the broadest sense of fantasy sports gaming, yes you would play these games in generally the same way. By that we mean you would follow the same process for entering any Fantasy tournament at bet365.
That process is:
- Click on the green button to confirm you want to enter the tournament
- Select a team based on the individual requirements of the tournament and adhering to any salary cap that is in place.
- Once your team is complete, click submit to enter your team into the tournament.
- Sit back and watch how your team performs.
- If at the end of the tournament game period, your selected team has earned enough fantasy points to finish in one of the paying places in the tournament, you will be paid out the sum of money you have earned by your finish from the prize pool. The higher you finish up the leader board, the greater the percentage of the prize pool you will earn from the tournament.
- If you finish outside the prize positions, you won’t receive a return and the tournament ends.
- Learn from your successes and mistakes and then click on another Fantasy Sport tournament to have another try!
However, while the process for entering a fantasy sports tournament is the same regardless of the fantasy game you play, there are some key differences between what a ‘team’ comprises of and what defines that is usually determined by the fantasy game you are playing.
In Fantasy Football, for example, you may be required to pick a fantasy team of 11 players that meets with the restrictions imposed by the salary cap and by the number of players you are allowed to select from one team.
But in Fantasy Tennis or Fantasy Golf, you may be required to pick a team from a number of different tiers of players of different ability, mixing up your selections between the different tiers to ensure your team meets the entry criteria.
In truth, regardless of how you pick your team, or how many players it comprises of, the aim of the game is still to claim as many fantasy points with your team as possible.

How Does The Salary Cap Work In Fantasy Sports?
Each player that you can pick for your team, regardless of the sport, is given a salary cap number, with the players rated most likely to score highly given the highest value salary cap (expressed as a dollar value) and the players not likely to score many fantasy sports points given a much lower salary value.
For example, in football, strikers that score lots of goals, such as Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Mo Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo will tend to have higher salary cap values than strikers who do not score as many goals, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bryan Mbuemo or Andre Ayew.
Similarly, defenders who are likely to keep clean sheets or assist or score goals, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo or Reece James, will be given a higher cap value than other defenders who are likely to concede more goals or who are not as creative or as regular a goalscorer.
Once all the available players are assigned values, players can then draft them into their team provided they meet with the criteria for the tournament. This means not exceeding the salary cap and perhaps also other criteria, such as not having more than three players from any one team in your team.
For other sports, such as tennis or golf, the process is similar, but the way the players are organised may well be different.
Similarly, for Pursuits games, players can select any players for their team they so wish, but each player is assigned a points handicap value, rather than a salary cap, and these handicaps, whether positive or negative, are applied to your points score with likely higher scoring fantasy players having a greater handicap penalty than players that tend not to score many fantasy points.
In essence, the salary cap works by making it impossible for entrants to simply stack their team with every one of the top ranked players, so they need to think about which players to include and also who to exclude from their teams, keeping the game fairer and far more competitive.
We will no doubt come back to the Fantasy Sports betting option at bet365 Sport in the coming weeks and months, but for now why not head over onto the site and check out what is available!
