You may be forgiven for thinking that with the Olympics now underway, it must be a pretty quiet time for sport, especially with the football season still a few weeks away.
Nothing could be further from the truth with a number of big sporting events taking place across the week from a variety of sports, all of which will attract plenty of punters to enjoy a bet on the outcome of their favourite events.
If you would like to enjoy a wager on any of the events outlined below, then remember bet365 Sport offers good value odds on a wide range of different sports events, including all the ones that we mention below.
And if you are based in the United States, then BetRivers PA is a fantastic choice for punters based in Pennsylvania while you can access other BetRivers sites from other states too.
So what are the big sports events taking place this week that are worth a bet on? Let’s take a look at some of the best options available for you.
Glorious Goodwood
Horse racing fans will be delighted to hear that one of the best meetings of the summer gets underway today. Glorious Goodwood offers five days of top quality racing from Tuesday 27th through to Saturday 31st July.
Amongst the most notable races at the meeting are the Stewards’ Cup, Nassau Stakes, Goodwood Cup, King George Qatar Stakes and Sussex Stakes.
The action begins today with the Goodwood Cup, which will see the famous Stradivarius and jockey Frankie Dettori going for a fifth consecutive victory in the race.
Bet365 has all the races across the five days of action which will delight horse racing fans whatever the weather.
Olympics
There are some fantastic betting opportunities available on the Olympics over the next week or so as Team GB seeks to add to the already impressive medal haul that the team have picked up so far to lie fifth in the overall medal table.
The Olympic Football tournament is reaching the end of the group phase and that means that we will soon be ready for the quarter final ties to be played in both the men’s and women’s events. Great Britain’s women’s team have already earned a quarterfinal spot but it remains to be seen who they will face in that game and with the favourites USA looking far less formidable, there is a real chance for one of the other countries to get their hand on gold here.
Along with Team GB, the Netherlands, Brazil, Sweden and Australia will all fancy their chances of success in this event.
In the men’s event, Brazil, Spain, Japan and the Ivory Coast all look likely to make it into the latter stages of what is proving to be an entertaining tournament.
The Track and Field action also gets underway on the 30th July and runs through until the tournament reaches its climax on the 8th August. There are so many great races and events to watch here including Armand Duplantis in the men’s pole vault, Shaunae Miller Uibo, Dina Asher Smith and Kelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in a fantastically competitive 200m.
Plus you have Norwegian hurdles ace Karsten Warholm going in the 400m hurdles, not to mention Trayvon Bromell hoping to follow Usain Bolt into the history books as the next men’s 100m Gold Medalist.
With so many great events spread across the nine days of action, it should be an exhilarating week of athletics to enjoy and of course, bet365 Sport has a wide range of bets available across most of these events right now.
Add to that all the action from other Olympic events such as boxing, cycling, swimming, diving, shooting and many more and it is easy to see why you can get your sporting fill with Olympic events alone over the coming week or so.
Boxing
British boxing fans have a stacked weekend of great boxing action to look forward to this weekend with three great fights featuring young British talent. Jack Cullen takes on Anvi Yildirim followed by Chris Billam-Smith against Tommy McCarthy and the main event sees Conor Benn back in action and hot favourite to beat Adrian Granados.
Benn was superb when beating Samuel Vargas in the first round back in April and he defends his 18-0 unbeaten record against the experienced American at Welterweight. Granados has eight defeats in his career and isn’t expected to give Benn too many problems.
Cricket
The Hundred continues over the next few weeks as the eight teams continue to battle it out in the men’s and women’s competitions in an attempt to reach the final, or at least the semifinals.
The tournament has been warmly received by fans thanks to its all-action nature, dramatic games and some spectacular action over the opening few days of action, all of which bodes very well for the future of the event.
In the women’s event, three teams are unbeaten with the Northern Superchargers and Oval Invincibles both winning both games they have played, while the Southern Brave have won their opening fixture.
In the men’s event, the Trent Rockets have a 100% record after two games, while the Welsh Fire also have a perfect record, albeit they have played just the one game so far.
There are a number of double-header fixtures coming up for both the women’s and men;s events starting with the Welsh Fire against the Southern Brave today, followed by the Manchester Originals against the Northern Superchargers tomorrow.
Formula 1
This weekend sees the action return to the track as the Hungarian Grand Prix takes place at the Hungaroring near Budapest. After the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix, which Hamilton won and which left Verstappen needing a hospital check up, you can be sure sparks will be flying at this Grand Prix.
Hamilton has won eight times at Hungary and he clawed back 27 points on Verstappen with the result in the British Grand Prix at the weekend and he will be feeling pretty good heading into this race. Verstappen meanwhile, will be angry at the lack of penalties afforded to Hamilton after their clash on track.
It all creates a very spicy prelude to what should be an interesting event on a track where passing is not very easy and where grid position and pit stop and tyre strategy can be every bit as crucial for a team to achieve victory as the speed and skill of their drivers.
So with so many great sports events available to bet on over the coming weeks, not to mention the countdown to the league season starting in a couple of weeks across the UK, it promises to be a hugely exciting week ahead for sports betting fans!
